Our women's hiking boots are top-quality, but not every pair is the same. Before you choose the perfect pair of boots from Public Lands, keep a few things in mind.
Warmth
If you plan to hike in warm or mild weather, uninsulated hiking boots will be adequate. You don't want your feet to overheat! However, in cold weather, insulated hiking boots are necessary.
Toe Protection
Soft-toe boots are pretty comfy, and they also give your feet a little extra stability. However, they're not as protective as composite toe boots. If something hits your toes, soft toe boots will allow the full force of the impact to reach your foot.
Composite toe boots offer significantly more protection. Though they don't shield your feet as well as steel toe boots, they're almost as good. They also don't weigh as much as boots with steel toes.
Height
Mid-height hiking boots offer more ankle flexibility, but high hiking boots create more stability. High hiking boots are vital if you'll face severe weather. Their high cut protects your ankles from the elements and prevents snow, dirt, or rocks from getting into your boots.
Slip Resistance
Almost anyone could benefit from a pair of slip-resistant boots. You can't always anticipate whether you'll face mud or ice. Fortunately, these boots will keep you from hitting the ground if you do.
Water Resistance
Water-resistant boots are great for damp weather. Water can get through if you drench them, but they'll usually fend it off. Waterproof hiking boots are ideal if you plan to stomp through puddles and rain.
Before you head outside, make sure to order a pair of hiking socks!
