The Perfect Stove

I would say yes! The variety of fuels types is spectacular! 90% of the time i use iso butane or propane, but the ability to convert is awesome. Quick cook times, good flame control. I also have a whisper light stove for colder weather and higher altitudes.

True 4 Season, Multi-fuel, Stable Cooktop, Light

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The MSR isobutane cartridge is 20% propane so it works down to -10F or better. Can tip the cartridge upside down to feed liquid so the propane doesn't all burn off, leaving just isobutane that won't work below 11F. Has the liquid pump and hose so it will burn white gas or kerosene at any temp. The burner doesn't sit on top of a tippy fuel cartridge and is nice and wide to accomodate larger pots, but narrow enough for the small pots too. Fuel cartridges are easy to find and kerosene and white gas are pretty much everywhere. The cartridges have a weight chart so you can determine the fuel level on a scale or just place them in water and read it. We had troubles before with a standard n-butane burner in winter, they don't work below 31F. The only alternative is bulky and heavy propane gear. Included an aluminum windscreen and a nice aluminum pad to place the burner on to reflect heat. You can get tiny cartridges for a quick pack-in up to large ones for car camping. I had the international version many years ago and it worked great, but the cartridges are more convenient. Also, some national forests/parks etc. will not let you use liquid fuel due to instant shutoff requirements especially in fire seasons.

Ok But I Wanted It To Be Better....

I like the multi-fuel flexibly but when using white gas, which is why I bought it, the lighting, priming and minimal temperature adjustment makes it less amazing. After priming, the yellow flame burns wildly and sooty. I really wanted to like this stove more but my 30 yo Coleman white gas mini camping stove is easier to light and to adjust the flame but it is also bigger/heavier. At least with white gas, it's good for boiling water quickly. With fuel canisters, it is more adjustable but still more bulky than my other stove options.

Versatile Flamethrower

I love this stove and the versatility of being able to use liquid fuel or canned. If you could add simmer control similar the Dragonfly stove I would give it 6 out of 5 stars.

I'm Crazy About My Whisperlite

I'm crazy about my WhisperLite Universal Stove!! I love the ease of use, the ability to clean and fix my stove and how well it works every time.

So Far So Good.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Although this is my first camping stove, I have had the opportunity to use MSR products before. I like it because it can do both canister and white gas. Good for both camping and as a means to cook when the power goes out.

Quiet! Simmers Great.

Loved being able to use propane in my Universal! And it was so quiet! Here, pictured packed inside my packraft (along with tent, sleeping bag, kitchen, tarps, etc). Clearwater River, Alaska, 4-23-2022.

Great Stove. Hope To Get

Great stove. Hope to get 30 years out of this one like my original whisperlite.

Awesome Stove

I have several stove systems, msr, and jet oil. This stove covers all of them, letting you use a variety of fuels. With the iso butane fuel it will simmer foods very nicely! Being able to use white gas, unleaded, kerosene and isobutane means you will never be short on fuel. It took roughly 3 minutes to bring 2 cups of water to boil with the isobutane, and that was without the windscreen. If you are looking for a versatile stove that checks all the boxes I believe this is it

Solid Design

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very rugged; able to take a beating. It was very nice having all the “Universal” pieces included. The instructions make sense. My only caution is that the tall 16/23 oz isopro fuel canister does not work right-side-up.

Rock Solid Piece Of Kit!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This thing rocks. Using the stove with a canister is a snap and super convenient. It is a bit heavier and bulkier than most of the smaller canister stoves but the performance range is unrivaled. Plus it sits very low to the ground and is rock solid stable with a pot on it.

High Quality Stove. Fast, Efficient, Multiple Fuel Sources

This is part of my moto-camping setup. It fits inside my water pot. Worked the first time and every time. High quality. Love the option to use multiple fuels. Fast, efficient and can adjust the flame for low heat cooking because there is more to camp cooking than just boiling water.

Sweet Stove

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Works great with my percolator. Boils 9 ( measuring) cups of water in about 10 minutes and coffee is served in about 5 more. I haven’t got the knack of getting a good simmer yet but I’ve mostly used it for coffee and reheating precooked meals.

Msr Universal Wind Resistant And Rugged!

So I've used ""bottle top"" style stoves for several years and while they are awesome for boiling water, I was finding myself frustrated enough by the effects of the wind that I wanted to try a flexible fuel line setup to solve that problem- and the MSR Universal delivered. In addition to being shielded from wind, the heat output also appears to be noticeably higher than the bottle top stoves I've used. Also gained awesome simmering capabilities for cooking fresh caught fish etc., and a more stable lower center of gravity. If you like to cook REAL food, need rugged dependability and the ultimate in fuel flexibility, buy a Universal. Considerations: larger packed size, (Fits nicely inside a 7 inch-ish pot) and with the isobutane setup you're looking at 10-ish ounces, but I'm cool with a weight penalty for the dependability. I pair the Universal with the two pot Alpine SS set. Very satisfied with this hardy setup!

Good Little Stove - Did The Job

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Good little stove - but didn't quite meet expectations. I only used white gas in the stove. To begin with the stove requires a bit of time to warm up - burning the gas to warm up the stove causes quite a bit of soot. If you can find it there is a gel to warm up the generator. I also could not get the stove to regulate temperature - I couldn't get it to change the size of the flame.
