Perfect, Secure Storage!

I’ve had the Yakima Topwater on my kayak trailer for a month. It’s got pros and cons, but overall I’m happy with the purchase. Pros: It’s definitely a secure box. I love that it’s a single key. It’s really lightweight for its size. It was easy to install and took about 5 minutes. It doesn’t rattle and has very little wind noise. Cons: As others have stated, it won’t lock unless you push down slightly on both ends. I consider that a slight inconvenience. It’s also really dark inside. My fix for that was installing 2 battery operated lights on each end. Overall: Yes, it is a very expensive purchase. The competition would be building rod tubes out of pvc. I chose the Yakima Topwater for its ability to hold 8 rods with reels on it in a secure manner that won’t damage them. Rod tubes are cheaper, but can’t hold as many bait caster rod/reel combos and what you can fit will eventually get damaged.

High Quality

I bought this to put on my kayak trailer to carry 8 fishing rods. This box securely holds 8 fishing rods and reels. I can also put my power pole spike, paddle and my life jacket in the box. I have seen reviews about the closure being an issue. I have not observed any issues at all. I also saw where people were using tape to seal the tracks in the bottom but my box came with a weather strip to seal the track. This is a high quality box.

Great Product!

I bought this to keep my rods out of the vehicle while traveling to the bay with my kids. It’s better than I expected. I am able to load up all my kayak equipment along with my fishing gear, keeping everything out of the car. Based on the layout I will be taking it with me to the mountains for transporting and storing my skis too.

Great Design But Flimsy Execution

Ordered this box with great enthusiasm. It is the shortest long box on the market and purpose built for rods. Both are big pluses. The design is excellent. The execution, however, is lacking. The box needs to be reinforced and the flimsy shell makes it easy to only partially engage the locking mechanism. Recommending the product for folks who don’t mind adding some engineering on their own to fix the issues above.
