I bought this rack a month ago and find the u hook that stablizes the bike frame difficult to slide up and down. Most of the parts are plastic. That maybe the issue

I have the Thule T-2 Pro XTR. Love it. Works great with my carbon fiber frames. Bought the add on when we have extra bikes to bring with us.

Great product, It is easy to use and a good quality Appears to be quite reliable and the locks are very useful. The add on is a must to make your bike rack a family rack ! Well worth the investment.

Thule has been our go-to brand for over a decade and has not disappointed. Thule has allowed us to safely and securely transport our sporting and camping equipment. Protect your investment(s), and purchase Thule to transport your stuff. It's the cheapest insurance going!

Got a two bike and 2 bike extention kit a few years ago. Included illustrated instructions were very poor, had to rely on non-thule reviews to understand what thule was trying to show.. Rack functions on edge of performance window for two bikes, but with 2 bike extension, as reported in another review "the handle doesn't work, even when connected correctly. I can use the handle to move the lock latch a bit, but not enough to toggle the lock. So I have to keep the rack in the down position full-time." Otherwise it is robust and excellent, especially without extension. Help Thule pls!!

This extension has 3 major problems: 1. The handle doesn't work, even when connected correctly. I can use the handle to move the lock latch a bit, but not enough to toggle the lock. So I have to keep the rack in the down position full-time. 2. The extension bolt holes don't line up correctly so you have to screw the bolts in at a slight angle and they only go in about half way. 3. The rack bounces up and down so much when driving over uneven pavement that the arms pop off the front tires of the bikes and the bikes flop over mid-drive.

I love the add-on rack but... After taking three hours to install, the HitchSwitch lever handle is very difficult to pull to tilt up and down. I have to use all my strength to pull the lever and it will not snap in place to lock. I have to push the lever down so it would be in the lock position.
Frustrated Customer
Spent 3 hours trying to install this thing. Seems to be a manufacturing defect (extra piece of plastic) that is blocking the handle from full movement. Could try and jerry rig it, but at this price point it should be an easy seamless experience to take on and off. If you can get this to work, you definitely would not be switching it back and forth from a 4 to 2-bike rack.

If you are looking at this, then you probably have more than 2 bikes. If so, just buy it. Great Thule quality and is perfect for the XT or XTR. Only issues with are; it comes with different locks than your XT/XTR (kinda annoying), not easily added/removed to the carrier (wish I could add when I want it with the family, then take it off when it’s a solo or ride with a friend), it’s massive and impairs rear window vision when stowed upright (it’s heavy and awkward to move, so I leave it on our Tahoe)

We just received our add on and installed the unit. Despite what others have said about fit and build quality ours fit with no issues and works great. The only draw back was the lack of detailed instructions but with the other rack I was able to figure out the wheel attachments. Overall great product.

Pro: permanently changes your T2 Pro XT from 2-bike mode to 4-bike mode, if you need to transport 4 bikes. Con: as others have said, the manufacturing tolerances on this product are very poor, and this was one of the most difficult and frustrating product installations I've ever done in my life. That said, I was able to get it installed, but most people I know would not have been able to do it themselves. The add-on's steel frame would not slide nicely into the steel frame of the T2 Pro XT. I had to use a 2x4 and a hammer to hammer it in place. (Add-on was too large and the original unit's receiving hole was too small). This makes it absolutely impossible to ever remove it without damaging, and it made the install very difficult. Then, the screw holes did not line up well, meaning I had to hammer the thing back and forth repeatedly just to get the screws to even be able to thread in. Finally, for the mechanism that attaches to the handle, there are 2 blind screws inside deep holes, you have to stick your allen wrench in there and pray for screw engagement, there is no way to see anything. You can't back out the screw at all. That step alone took 30 minutes of jiggling, banging, cursing, etc, in order to get the screws to magically line up with their threaded holes. The worst part? If you fail at this step of installing the add-on kit, you won't be able to use the original bike rack anymore either because you have already detached these screws, and the mechanism won't work anymore. My recommendation is to get this installed at a professional bike shop where they do the hard work for you. Only get this if you absolutely need 4 bikes on your already-owned T2 Pro XT.

Really solid and safe bike rack for 4 bikes. To assemble it, the bolt welds protruded too much to slide into the receiver. I had to grind them flush to get the add on to slide in. It can be a 2 or 4 bike rack but it will take some assembly and disassembly to make it work

I have had this rack for 4 months. I started out with an adult large Santa Cruz full suspension bike and two Woom 5's. Easy. Added a 29" Specialized Chisel. Fine if the small bikes were in the middle positions. Now I have taken away the Woom 5's and I have a 24" Marin full suspension and an adult Specialized Stumpjumper in XS. It is a puzzle to get them to fit on this rack. After doing it over and over I have noticed that the distance between spots 2 & 3, and 3 & 4 is an inch or two less than spots 1 & 2 (1 being closest to the car). It is a hot mess; seat posts hit handlebars, derailers hit the lower part of the front tire arm. Not what I was expected and seriously will look at other options as I have these 4 bikes most days I ride.

I did not expect quality issues like these from Thule. The tolerances were way off. I had to loosen up a number of screws to wiggle the pieces to make the first few connections work but ultimately got to the point where there was nothing else I could do. Really disappointing. Had to go on a family trip without our bikes. Returning this and buying a Küat instead.

This rack works wonderfully, and I won't add anything that others have covered. What I will say is that you should NOT buy this rack if you don't have a pickup truck or other high axle vehicle. We have a mid sized SUV and the back end of the rack (x4 bikes) runs dangerously low to the ground. At one point we hit a train track doing about 40 KM/H and the back rack was torn off the hitch. For a large or lifted pick up truck I'm sure it would be ideal.
