Good Watch

Been wearing it daily. Good watch tracks pretty much everything I need it to. Takes care of my needs easy to use. Simple set up once you get used to it.

Not Intuitive Functionally

I purchase the Moss Gray about 2 months ago and have been trying it out a while before I write a legitimate review. I have always loved the aesthetics of Suunto and was very excited to receive it. Of course, like anything, the watch takes some time to get used to. What I like about the watch? design, lightweight, overall appearance. The first thing I don't like is the interface. It is outdated and feels like technology from 10 years ago. From the font to the icons and displays, it just doesn't feel 2021. Second thing I dislike is that the functions are hard to get used to. Took a while to get all the buttons figured out and even then, it takes a while to get to where you want to go. And it only has maybe 5 watch display options, in which probably 3 don't display everything you'd want. Last major thing is that the tracking is not accurate. For example, walking steps. I know that on an average day I would have 3,000-4,000 steps. This watch will count steps as long as you arm is moving. For instance, after a shower, it would add about 500 steps to my count. Therefore I easily average 6000 steps a day when I know it's fewer. For the price, I'd expected more. But...ces't la vie.

Bomber!

This is my first smart watch so I've got nothing to compare it to but, I love it. Its a great fitness tracker. I love the app and the details and helps keep me accountable. The main reason I decided to go with this watch was the navigation feature. I have loaded routes but I have not used that feature yet. Breadcrumbs were important to me also since I plan on exploring snow covered trails in mountainous terrain. My favorite small feature is on the face, there is sunset and sunrise times that with a quick figure of home much daylight is left. Or how many hours until sunrise. Also great to use while hangboarding due to the ease of using laps or reps. I should mention, it also keeps the time.

Great Staff

I purchased this watch a month ago. Delivery was quick. Comparing suuto to my previous watch which is Garmin some of the features are far better. For example GPS is very accurate specially in terrain, mountain regions.

The Watch Of An Adventurer

I found this watch for a couple weeks now and every day it grows on me more and more. I was stuck between buying the Apple Watch and the Suunto 9 peak. And I’m definitely glad I went with the peak!

Great Features

The features are great for my hikes such as barometer, altitude, heart rate, oxygen levels. It helps me a lot when I exercise. The surface is large enough, even if there is information coming in during exercise, you can see the content without stopping, neither will you miss important information, nor do you have to worry about affecting the training progress.

Love The Look And Features

I’ve been testing out several fitness watches and this one checks almost all the boxes. The size/look and comfort are outstanding (not as clunky as many other watches with similar features). The interface is easy to use and robust. For the most part the sensors are above average accurate (pulse ox aside). Batter life is astounding. I haven’t gotten to testing all the sport modes or take it on a serious trek, but can’t wait. Overall I’m very pleased.

Awesome Watch

The Sunnto Peak 9 is super lightweight and has a crystal clear display. User interface is intuitive but does have its flaws. Everything you could need in the wilderness just short of topo maps.

Excellent!

Longer than expected battery life. Navigation is accurate, lightweight, great. The interface isn’t polished and as intuitive as the popular “smart watches” of our day but this is a watch that actually does something useful. I ever used the usual watch for was time, date, and find a lost phone. This watch is a navigating, data logging ANIMAL from the forest ready to show you the way to athletic alpha apex performance, while lasting for days and days on a single charge. Finally!! Excellent!!

Nice Hardware Build, But The Software Needs Work.

I really wanted to like this watch. The build quality of the device itself is awesome, the device itself is very lightweight, and it looks good on the wrist.  But I unfortunately had the good pretty much end there.  The biggest complaint I had for this watch is that when I attempted to use it for a bike race to track my time, I decided to step it's GPS accuracy down to see what kind of battery life I could eke out of it for a 210 mile bike ride. I anticipated that I would lose some accuracy, but what I didn't anticipate was losing the GPS signal for 40 miles. It only reconnected when I noticed it was 40 miles short of the 56 I had ridden at the first checkpoint. Big strike against this watch there, as it failed to do it's most important function as an activity tracker. I've been frustrated by silicone wristbands in the past, but the one that ships on the Suunto 9 Peak is especially brutal. I applaud the aesthetic of the blue silicone with brushed steel hardware, as it really does look good. However, the mechanism for securing the excess strap is a small metal rivet that is to be poked through an exposed hole on the strap. This setup looks sleek, but ultimately does not feel good. During activity as well as wearing the watch casually, the rivet poked me continually, which I found quite distracting the few times I used it. I only made it a few days before swapping it out for a different quick release band. The redeeming quality that I saw in this watch was the Suunto App for your phone. The app itself is comprehensive and is laid out very nicely. The quick references on the main page give nice visual representations of the last 7 days. I wish the app had a dark mode, but that's a little nitpicky. Other than being an athlete and an outdoor industry employee, I'm also a cook. When I'm in the kitchen, utilizing multiple timers on different devices is instrumental to everything coming together. I feel a little nit-picky here, but I ultimately burnt cookies because of the watch's very very quiet alarm, which counts down from 10 (which is nice) but when it hits 0, it beeps a single time with a single vibration buzz, then is silent. I missed this completely while I was wearing headphones at the computer waiting for cookies in the oven.  Overall, two of my 3 big gripes could be fixed with software updates. So, these things could be remedied with time. (It may be important to note that I had it on version 2.16.26)

From Friluftsliv To Suit And Tie.

The Suunto Peak 9 has won me back as a Suunto fan. The 9 Peak's small design is the first time a smaller watch has packed the needed features beyond my expectations for a smart GPS watch. Its size allows me to easily add and remove layers without getting caught up when switching between activities; larger watches I always had to remove and risked losing or forgetting for example (I do silly long races which make me sleep deprived). As for some features I am loving, creating routes is easy in the suunto app and allows a few different quick methods to snap your route to trails, just remember to click turn by turn once it is created. Uploading and downloading from the watch to a smartphone is super fast as well. I was shocked how easy the process was, I have yet to import a GPX file but I have faith the process will be just as seamless. Previous watches I have owned had a "genius" route maker which you plugged in your mileage but didn't take me out routes that were very nice(to use the best word I can). Having the integrated Suunto Plus features such as Training Peaks TTS, Strava Relative Effort, and Safe are game changers, adding an added level of easy to understand metrics on how you are performing or how far from your home base you are. I find this super handy for me as I typically just head out on runs or rides without any sort of plan of mileage or time, just allowing my body to tell me when it is good to go home. By using the suunto plus features I can know with confidence I can stay out longer or should slow down and take it easy. The battery life on this watch is perhaps my biggest shout out, 170hrs on that custom mode, or even 50hrs in endurance is amazing. For HR watchers you need to be aware that once you use the "Ultra (120hrs)", or "Custom" (170hrs) HR reading is turned off automatically for battery life, but it can be enabled. I have participated in a good amount of races that cross over the 30+hour mark typically and having to charge my old watch mid race was always such a hassle (not to mention the charge cable falling out). The endurance setting gives me easy confidence that I can log my race data and not have to worry about adding a charge. I would even back that up that even if I did need a charge the connection is so sleek and locks on so powerfully that I don't think that even in my worst sleep deprivation state I couldn't manage to charge if needed. There are some features however I do miss from other watches, I really enjoyed listening to music through my watch as my phone typically dies during winter runs. And of course there are no topo maps on the Suunto yet. While I didn't use it all too often on my previous watch it was nice on the occasion I needed added confidence of my location using the relative landforms around me and the topo map. No maps also means no short cutting easily, with this I simply set the navigation bearing to home and try to take the shortest trails (sometimes this means a little bushwacking). Using the simple bearing navigation works great in the backcountry as you are already covering vast swaths of land, but in the metro parks around Detroit it feels a bit like blind orienteering. If this watch had topo maps or any trail map overlay features it would be an easy 5 stars for the product. Other features I enjoy are the ability to toggle ALT. based on GPS or Baro, making sure the baro sensor stays more accurate when not simply in the mountains (not logging activity). The Blood oxygen saturation level only measures when you ask it too (3 clicks from the home screen), not bogging down the battery like other watches can. Storm alert! have only had it ring a couple times, but is great when your in an area that lacks visibility to the wind and sky conditions. The watch doesn't scream I am a hardcore outside adventurer from appearance which is another thing I love about it. I used to get a lot of questions about a watch being so huge, this model looks like a modern sleek timepiece able to fit in wherever I need to be. The titanium bezeling and sapphire facing are not only elegant but durable, leaving me with the confidence to go hard and worry less about the damage I may inflict on it.
