The main purpose these serve for me is that they are just big enough to go over my wader’s socks. My tennis shoes actually work better functionally. I can’t imagine hiking in these, they are clunky and heavy have very poor grip, I just carry them with me when I need to hike in. They could drain better for sure, but also the material itself retains a ton of moisture in all the bits with cushion. The laces de sheathed after the first few times I used them as well. Ultimately I’m just left wondering what these are for since they are worse for hiking and wading than any old shoe I have.

I'm a guide, I bought a size run of these for clients. I added studs (6 per boot) and clients have had no traction issues. I like that they are light weight and dry very quickly.

Good construction and comfortable. I've worn twice so far and very pleased.

Paired perfectly with the waders. Comfortable to hike upstream

These are potentially a great boot. The build quality is great. I used them a couple of days hiking into Bear Trap Canyon and they are quite comfortable offering great support on the trail. The problem comes when you get in the water. Madison River rocks aren’t really slick by my standards. I used a pair of a competitor boots for the 5 days before I got these and had no issues with slipping. The compound that Simms used in the rubber is clearly not acceptable for wading. Unless you plan to use studs, stay well clear of these unfortunately.

I know these boots were not made for Salt water but have held up well considering the conditions. Great book for the price. .
What about salt water? Can I wear these well, Surf fishing as long as I cleaned them afterwards

I have used this felt sole boot the past 3 years and they been wonderful and durable as I fish 2x/month year round. I mistakenly ordered the rubber sole this time. I have used them one day and I fell once in the river and almost 2 additional times. The last time I fell in river was maybe 5 years ago, its rare. The rubber soles have to be liability for Simms and the only way I can now to try and make these boots safe are to add the screw in studs. Fingers crossed and beware of the rubber soles.

I give these 5 stars as I have put somewhere around 300 days or more fishing my first pair of these and have put 20 or so on a second because the sole cracked on the first. I fish the Rio Grande in New Mexico several days a year crawling on the volcanic rock, boulders, cactus, sage and they have held up to it. I have tortured these boots and they held as long as any other guides much more expensive boots. I only wish I could get them with about a 3rd the volume as I have a size 13 B foot and have to fill lots of space with wading socks. Even still I bought a second pair.

Fit great. Dont drain super well but after a bit of hiking its ok.
Excellent books. Rugged enough but lighter than expected. I need to put studs in them for maximum traction. Would definitely recommend and buy again.
