I'm up in the air about these shoes. I bought them to see how a lighter weight hiker could feel since a lot of treks we do go out past 20mile days . I get a bit of a pinch when the toe of the shoe flexes ,but it is lessened if I loosen the shoe. However, I am used to the secure feeling of a full laced hiker like the Solomon Quest where stepping off trails and into the mountains is no issue. This shoe might not provide the same security to me even if the shoe flex pinch is resolved. The plastic eyelets are concerning . Sounds like it might be a good shoe depending on your needs and if the fit works ,but I will probably be staying with a heavier boots for added comfort and security.

Good Hiking Shoe

Just purchased this shoe to hunt deer and elk in the mountains for its light weight and waterproofness. Shoe held up well. Impermeable to water thus far. I like the aggressive sole in these shoes. Aggressive soles like these are hard to find which are much needed in rugged steep mountainous country that I hunt in.

I tried two different size pairs of this shoe and was disappointed with both. The first size was too long which was odd since I got a half size smaller than I typically would. The shoe also did not feel secure in the heel section. From experience I know this will lead to blisters. The shoes were really tight around the arches of my feet. I do not have wide feet and thought this might be a size issue so I returned the first pair and ordered a second pair 1 full size smaller than what I typically wear. The fit was very tight again and I couldn't imagine wearing them for long periods of time. Also, as I walked there was a popping sound in each shoe. This happened on both sizes I ordered. Ultimately I returned the second pair and will be looking for a different shoe.

The Ultra 4 is the love child of a light weight trail shoe and a waterproof hiking boot. I fell in love with these in the first mile of a hike. This should be the blueprint for a light hiker
