I got the UK 13.5 and could immediately feel the tightness at the toes compared to my speed cross 6. They are ok for shorter distances but over 12 miles I ended up with a blister on my big toe. Apart from that , if they're good in your size then the shoe is awesome with amazing grip and feeling through the sole. I wish Salomon would up their sizes to UK 14.

This is my second pair and I love this shoe. Great fit from the lacing system that allows rapid adjustment and to really be cranked down with out binding on the instep. The upper in general is near perfect with good ventilation and durability. The best though is how the cushion and outsole work together to make really technical terrain flow. Especially love in really root infested sections how the shoe handles the torque that can lead to ankle rolls. It basically grabs hold of the root like it has opposable thumbs. None of the teetering on a wedge you get with other shoes.

I just finished ten days of hiking the Swiss Alps based in Wengen. Covered 110 miles through extreme to easy trails. Heavy loose rocks, regular gravel, grassy and heavily rooted switchback trails. These shoes were absolutely perfect. Zero foot fatigue, no blisters, total support of foot, toes and ankles. The “no laces” set up was excellent. Held fit perfectly, more importantly, no loosening due to untied shoes. I took both the black and white versions. Gripped all terrain exactly as designed. Most importantly to me, prevented foot, ankle and leg fatigue which allowed me to continue ten days without a rest day. Clean up easily as well.

The Ultraglide 4 is sold as a comfort shoe for trail running, and it delivers. This shoe has been fantastic for running 50+miles without pain or discomfort. It has a wider toebox than most other Salomon shoes and a unique sole that does well. That being said, this is probably not the go-to shoe if you are running fast (sub 8 minute miles) on technical trails. These shoes also have a tendency to allow debris into the shoe which is more than I have experienced with other Salomon shoes. Otherwise, it delivers with lasting performance. I recently took the Ultraglides through 8 days of running the Dolomites and did not regret that choice at any moment.
Trail Runner Tune-Up
I currently own 3 pairs of the Ultra Glide 4. The Ultra Glide 4 is by far the best trail shoe for long distances. For a max cushion trail shoe, it’s surprisingly light and responsive. The grip is good on both mud / soft ground and hard rocky surfaces. I ran the Javelina Jundred 100 miler in Ultra Glides and never had to change shoes. The 4th version, I believe is even better than prior versions. The Ultra Glide 4’s are my go trainer and race shoes.

This shoe is by far the most comfortable Salomon trail running shoe I have experienced so far. Comfortable enough to run 50+ miles in a variety of surfaces. Probably not the go-to shoe if you are running technical trails and want to go fast, but if you want comfort that won’t wear down your feet and calves, this is it. This shoe has better toe room than other Salomon trail shoes, and wears well with mileage. I recently spent a week running n the Dolomites and the Ultraglide 4 was one of the two pair of shoes I took. No regrets with that decision. They performed well and I would take time again.

I’ve owned numerous pairs of Salomon’s and this is my first pair of Glides. I got them just in time for vacation and wore them almost every day. They felt great right out of the box. I did a lot of walking on concrete and asphalt and didn’t have any pains. They look great too!

Good for long distance shoe a very smooth ride and true to size (it is not a fast shoe it's not meant for that.) I use it for as a trainer for my long distance runs if I am going to spend over two hrs out on the trails and don't care about the distance that I am doing, also good if your trying to just keep your self and zone 2 or 3.

I picked up a pair of Salomon hiking shoes and put them to the test on some tough trails. Laurentian, the Crack in Killarney, the Cup and Saucer, and even Checane on Manitoulin. The grip is honestly sensational. I never worried about my footing, even on slick rock. What's cool is that you can still feel the terrain underfoot. Sticks, stones, you sense them, but without pain. It gives you that connected, confident feel, especially scrambling. Comfort is strong overall, and for around 200 bucks, that felt very reasonable for the performance. I do run and jog on trails, so I put a lot of wear on my footwear. One drawback I noticed is the ankle support. It's a bit lacking, especially if you're used to more structured boots. Still, for grip, ground feel, and all-day comfort, they've impressed me on some pretty demanding hikes.

I bought these after loving my speed cross 6 and wanted something with a little more cushion for walking on stone dust and gravel trails. Sadly in 3 weeks my soles have deteriorated and have hardly any lugs left. Sad because they were so comfortable.

After amassing a pile of On and Hokas in the closet for trail walks and long distance walks I decided to give the Ultra Glide a shot. Loved the looks, but worried about fit and support. The UG is the best distance shoe I’ve ever worn. Have the black and the white. Have put over one hundred miles on both. Fit is amazing. Excellent support and absolutely zero foot fatigue after long treks. Not hot on the foot during mid summer coastal conditions. Love the laceless system. These shoes wrap your foot and there’s no movement in the front that has caused blisterss with the other brands.

These are by far my favorite Salomon trail hiking shoe. I have gone backpacking with them in Yosemite and I reach for them on my local trails. I live in Southern California where the terrain can go from smooth dirt to rocky, jaggy trails. These shoes excel in keeping my feet cushioned. I highly recommend. I just ordered a 2nd pair!
