For Narrow Feet Only

Lots of cushion and good feedback but the solid rubber sole feels like a boat shape so if your foot doesn't fall right into that boat, the outside of your feet will be falling on the edge of the sole resulting in pain and injury.

Narrow And Hard

You might wanna go up a size if you have a wide foot. And the insole is really hard and it's like riding Tesla mode y.

Nice Style And Comfort

A little snug as a fit. I did buy the same size as the S/Lab Ultra 3 (10.5) but these are too snug to wear as a runner. Which is fine, this will be my daily walking shoe.

Runs Small

Heavier than expected. Quite firm in the sole. Comfortable lacing.

I Like The Idea!?!?

Kudos for a great idea! The shoe itself is just ok. Very little cushion, it feels like a "block of wood" underfoot. Otherwise construction and look...meh.

These Things Can Run

They work. I run 8-miles day 7 days a week and therefore I need something reliable so I don't develop plantar issues, etc. I was using Slab Sense 7 or so but my runs are now more urban (70% paved road, 30% dirt) so it was too much to run so much on such hard-minimalist shoes. These Index 01 are great. They also look nice, I'd wear them if I had other running shoes that work as of now. I noticed they are discontinued, why? I wouldn't change much from this model. I just want to run on something comfortable enough but not too much that lasts longer than the Phantasm (had 1 pair and lasted 1 month with no holes, like the concept but can't afford to buy expensive shoes every other month.

Recommend

Loved it!... I'm a big fan of Salomon and finally got this pair after a good off!

Like Wearing A Sock With A Sole Attached

I love em , just need more colors. White on white is tough to wear for everyday runs.

Speedy

After 4 road runs these shoes earn 5 ⭐️. I am a part time road runner and fuller time trail runner. These shoes made road efforts fun and fast. The first day I wore them one foot was a little snug in width but it’s so comfortable now. I’m really happy with these shoes and am looking forward to more road miles.

More Please

disclosure- I did not buy these to be active. I only bought these shoes due to the low waste approach to the design. That said the shoes are super cool and super comfortable! I just want to see this program continue!

Very Nice Shoe ! Cannot Believe It Is Recyclable!

Early days but just took this out for first outdoor run on crushed gravel after some rain and did surprisingly well. Not a rugged trail shoe at all , but absolutely will work as a daily trainer for roads and light gravel and easy park trails . Very breathable! Fit is a tiny bit long but I have a slightly wide forefoot and the slight extra length wasn’t a problem. The midsole is plenty protective and cushioned with a nice rocker. Yeah there are other super foams probably for less money but this is a great performer. I think a lot of people will get this as a lifestyle only shoe but real runners who are trying to make the industry move in a recycling direction should definitely give this a look!

Every Step Counts

A very exciting new generation of road runner. The points I'd like to cover in this review are the concept, the components, and the character of the Index.01. 1. The Concept As professional, hobbyist, and recreational runners, the target market this shoe is aimed towards understand the accepted lifecycle and continuum of an industry standard runner (trail, road, or otherwise), and have all been faced with the unfortunate reality of saying farewell to an expended pair of shoes. The Index.01 is the fulfilling answer to the frustrating question of "what do I do with these now?" I won't spend too much time selling you on this concept, you are here reading reviews which means these shoes should already be in your cart. Salomon has done a brilliant job developing this shoe and constructing the first lifecycle that it will pass through. The responsibility now moves into the hands of the end user to participate in this concept by running and recycling this shoe at the end of its life. Sign me up for any shoe that does not go directly to a landfill. 2. The Components - The Uppers I'll start with my favorite region of this shoe. The woven textile design makes this without doubt the lightest runner I have ever used. I was excited by and thoroughly surprised by just how weightless each stride felt. The connection point between upper and outsole is protected by a synthetic proofing reinforcement which will contribute to the overall durability of the shoe. The woven upper greatly increases airflow and breathability which is the only trade off that (as a pacific northwesterner) I will make a note of to use this primarily as a dry day runner. I will be curious to see how the upper performs during active precipitation. I typically wash my socks after every run, but I honestly considered saving them for another run, simply because this shoe is remarkably breathable. -The Insole/Lining This is one of the first components I check when purchasing a new shoe. I do not like running in shoes that have a wide toebox, open lining, or unsupported insole. The Index.01 fits very true to size, favoring the overall narrower end of the fit spectrum. The toebox is fitted but not tight, the forefoot hug however is favorably snug. I would encourage ordering true to street shoe size. When properly laced up this shoe fits like a glove: snug on the instep, well hugged over top of the forefoot, and securely fitted in the toebox. - The Outsole This is one of the components I am most excited about! As mentioned in the previous review, the outsole is very well cushioned, but not explicitly bouncy like most anticipate from a cushioned shoe. The nitrogen infused TPU Infiniride is showcased by the Index.01 by this specifically designed outsole. For those used to running as heel strikers you will derive the optimal use out of this design. The reverse camber gives a confident and comfortable heel strike, a well platformed plant, and a propelling lead off. The 9mm drop will be something to adjust to if you are coming from a lower profile shoe, but the higher drop does contribute to the heel - toe mechanics of this reverse cambered design. Lastly on the outsole, the grip is just fantastic. The beaded design is remarkably grippy, very responsive, and will easily stop you on a dime. 3. The Character Flashy R&D, ethical end user experience, and exciting implementation are great, but let's talk about execution. Does it all add up and deliver? My go-to route from home is a 13k-15k route that covers hills, tight turns, up tempo flats, and sustained rollers. I've run this route two to three times per week for the last four years and the first time out with the Index.01 I took three minutes off of my PR. I am very impressed with the downhill confidence, the responsive handling, and the comfort over moderate distance. Between the comfortable uppers, the well designed and thoughtful outsoles, and the complete performance I anticipate wringing a lot of distance out of these shoes before they are ready to be upcycled. To conclude, does it all add up and deliver for the price point? As a wholistic deliverable, I am going to say yes. The concept, the components, and the character all check out for me in what I hope to enjoy from a road runner. This is a shoe that is going to perform well for you, stay reliable for you, and brandishes the ethical aim to raise the bar on what we should expect from the lifecycle of a runner.

Love The Concept And Ride

I’ve owned these for about three weeks and have gone on about 4 runs of 10km. I’d say there are very few compromises overall and I’m excited to see where they take this concept in the future. I really think this will succeed. Things I’ve liked specifically: - lightweight - lots of cushion (although not the bounciest ride) - sock like fit - stylish Things I’d like to see with a new version: - a more rounded / neutral sole - other colours? - a trail runner version At the end of the day, it’s a very low compromise recyclable running shoe, and that’s pretty great!
