This pack checks all the boxes for a midsize, all purpose, backcountry ski rig. The design is clever and useful throughout. While I was suspicious of a main compartment entry via zippers on the back pad, it proved to be both easy to use and straightforward. The basic harness is adjustable enough for several body sizes and it rode comfortably all day. I appreciate the well designed internal zipper pockets which helped organize the do-dads. A great overall ski pack. Photo is from a spring ski tour in the Snowy Range outside of Laramie, Wyoming, May 2025.

Finally wore out my first Soelden 32 pack out after many hundreds of days of bc skiing and hiking over several years. I looked at a lot of other packs to replace it with, but this is still the best backcountry skiing pack on the market in my opinion.

Perfect pack for day backcountry trips. Can fit gear, lunch, and extra layers in it. Love the pockets for shovel and probe, and helmet. Stoked to get out there and rip with this thing! Holds weight well too.

Splitboarder here. Overall, this is a great pack. All the main stuff needed is there from avy section to helmet stash to radio routing to the important and appreciated Osprey carry comfort & fit. However a couple things need improvement to make this into a highly recommendable pack for fellow splitboarders: (1) My biggest complaint: lower A-frame carry straps do not fit most split skis, so we are relegated to the vertical carry only which I, and many of us, do not prefer. So the lower straps needs more adjustability range to fit split skis. (2) The straps need more sewn gear attachment points. My radio clipped to the one attachment point ends up being nearly on top of the shoulder rather than in front/on my chest where it's more easily accessible. I end up fumbling around to find the radio and button. Perhaps slightly longer straps as well. (3) The hip belts could be a bit bigger, along with a wider/more substantial webbing belt and buckle. Pockets on both sides would be preferable, and can still keep the gear loop on one side along with a zippered pocket. (4) Side zipper access to main compartment. (5) Lastly as a bonus as icing on the cake, an external water bottle pocket and a little more padding on the back panel.

I love this pack. It’s my mtb trail building pack. I can fit my sawing helmet in the little helmet spot. Which is great. Tons of room! Just enough pockets. I really dig the hip pocket. I find the quality to be super durable. Almost to a fault because the only annoying thing is sometimes the zipper on the main pouch can be a B to zip. I think it’s because the frame and probably what you would want for a zipper there, toughness. No big really. Glad I went the osprey route!

Amazing back pack that is well designed for touring. Great gear management and very comfortable.

I have been using this pack for my snowboarding trips this season, and so far, I LOVE IT! This particular gold and black pack is such a good-looking pack. I love how the main compartment is on the back side rather than the front. So, when I need to put my belongings in and out of the pack, snow doesn't get on me. It's very comfortable and meets all my needs as far as what I need it for.

I’ve had this a month and it’s excellent. Tons of carry features that all tuck away to prevent getting hung up when I hit the resort but ready when I’m off piste

I've put 200k vertical on my Soelden in the backcountry. I use Drift boards and carry my solid board on all uphill, so my main priority is how effectively the pack carries a board, and then organization is a close second. I haven't found a pack yet that absolutely perfect in every detail, but this checks most of the boxes. Durability is top notch, I think most people could get one of these and never buy another pack again (but Osprey will take care of you if anything came apart anyway,) I use Osprey for mountain biking and travel as well. Hard to beat.

This looks exactly like the Black Diamond Dawn Patrol pack, suspiciously so. Minor differences maybe, but it looks like you just slapped an Osprey logo on the Dawn Patrol pack. If I was Black Diamond I would maybe get my legal department involved.

Excellent bag for super dedicated points of product description. But no one uses them 100% entirely as described. When we need a easy access side pocket for slightly larger items, like a water bottle or extra clothing layer, there are no external easy access pockets, neither front or side. Also, being such a compact and streamline bag it would be very useful to detach or hide the hip-belt because when travelling in public transportation, the hip belt isn't used, but gets in the way and is extremely awkward to manage.

I have gone through 3-4 different backcountry packs, and this one just feels like I'm not even wearing it. I don't notice it uphill or downhill. Beautiful pack!

I think this pack has improved in many ways from previous models. For example, the outside pocket that holds the probe and shovel is a big upgrade. I also love the gear loop on the hip belt. My biggest problem with this bag is the bottom side carry loops, while reinforced, they are far too narrow for a standard Splitboard. Not being able to H or A carry is a big deal for a backcountry pack. Additionally, I preferred the bladder pocket for water rather than a water bottle pocket in the inside compartment.

Pros: I bought this as a replacement for my Zephyr (made in Delores) which I use for dirt and snow day hikes. To date, just dirt hikes, but I really like it. The bladder pocket is easy to deal with when the pack is loaded and sure beats digging around for a liter bottle or like my Aether 70, partially unloading it. It's comfortable, I forget it's on my back. Cons: I do miss a daisy chain (Zephyr has one including tool loops), but I really just want that to strap on my collapsible trekking poles - but that's a dry land thing and not what this pack was designed for and I haven't carried an ice axe for a long time. so not really a con for me, but maybe for others. The locking clips seem overly complicated, but I don't use them very much, so maybe it's just getting used to something new. 40+ years of using simple clips just takes time to adjust. Looking forward to using the snow features. I think it's going to be good inbounds as well as the back country. I'll hang my old Zephyr next to my Dana Bomb pack, take them out occasionally for old times sake. ;)

This is the best pack I've ever used in the backcountry. Others have similar features but this one is SO comfortable. Absolutely love it. Look no further.
