Top Bag

I’ve used my original EP 55 for several multi-day hikes and it is superb. The detachable top pocket is a bonus, but the capacity to weight ratio is outstanding.

Exos Pro55

A brilliantly designed rucksack addressing pretty much all the design weaknesses of previous models. The fabric is ripstop & durable & the main carrying frame comfortably handled the 18kg I used on its initial test trip. I particularly like the suspended back which made a huge difference to airflow around my back. In terms of capacity it hits a personal sweet spot with its ability to carry the tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, stove, extra clothes & 5 days of food inside the body. Waterproofs stashed in the outside pocket. It weighs almost 1kg less than my previous long distance Osprey sack which will make an enormous difference in comfort - especially during the first 2/3 days of a trip I’ve had many different rucksacks over the years but this is easily the best designed. Downside, cost. However over the lifetime of the sack, the super lightweight design will more than pay for itself every time I set off on a multi day trip.

The Thin Straps Made The

Great Pack!

I finally have enough miles that I can give this an honest review. I used this pack for the trans Catalina trail and a few 3 day trips in the Marble's. I really like this pack and it still looks brand new with very little wear. It preformed very well. It would be 5 stars from me if the zipper pocket on the hip belt functioned properly. My base weight is about 18 lbs. I'm 5'9" and 220lbs. Pros: Lightweight Love the Airspeed vented frame. Great fit with many adjustments. Removable Brain. Cons: Zippers on hip pocket is difficult and sometimes I had to use both hands to open

Almost Perfect

I'd really have given this 4. 5 stars but the system won't let me. I use this as my MRT callout bag and can easily adjust it to store team kit in alongside my personal gear. Much lighter than my previous pack and the load seems to distribute much better. Only two criticisms. I would prefer both waistbelt pockets to be zipped (just one is) and the toggles that "set" the adjustment for the shoulder straps occasionally pop out when you take the pack off. I don't tend to notice any difference when they do, but when I see it, it annoys me lol

Could Be Perfect But For One Thing.

I've got more Osprey bags than I would care to admit to having and they use a variety of different systems for adjusting the torso length. The system on the one is quite poor. When the weight is taken off the straps, i.e when you put the backpack on the ground, the toggles often come out of the slots and I've found myself on many occasions having to put them back in. It's just annoying. But other than that I actually do really enjoy using this pack. Everything else is pretty perfect, so I'll have to make my peace with that one gripe.

Hated This Pack At 16kg, Loved It At 12.5kg

Just walked 96 miles over 6 days with this loaded up to 16kg. At that weight this pack is terrible and not comfy at all. The bag just sagged very low over my hips and I couldn't get it comfy. Because the straps are alot thinner than the normal Osprey packs at that weight the just loosen of constantly as there's not enough friction. Pack finished off at 12.5kg and around that weight the pack was perfect. It felt light and I didn't even notice I had it on at that weight, definitely the sweet spot for this ultralight pack. I got to really love the simplicity of this pack, you can tell alot of engineering and thought has gone into creating it. "Its not perfect, but almost!"

Bad Torso Adjustment And Pocket Design

The toggles on the new torso adjustment system keeps popping off on my back, when putting on the pack and when taking it off. Seems like a common complaint (google it). Returned the item got a refund which was nice. Also hate the one zipper-less side pocket. You still need two hands to get stuff out of it so why bother taking out the zips? Close To Perfection!

I bought the Exos Pro 55 last September, used it for multiple Fall trips in the Sierras, and loved it! At barely over 2 lbs, it's a real ultralight pack. With its frame, it really does hold the weight well, even up to 30 lbs though I usually carry less. The mesh back panel keeps me cool, and the whole pack fits like a glove. I've had no sore spots at all. It's light enough to use as my summit pack, too, after removing the top lid (2.6 oz). My iPhone 13 fits fine in the hip belt pocket, and the side pockets keep my water bottles secure. I've taken it through miles of trees, bushes, scrambling over boulders, etc... and the material has held up well. No tears at all. There's nothing I don't like about this pack. At 55L, it's plenty large for multi-day trips. I'm so glad Osprey came out with this improvement to the Exos series (I also own an Exos 58, but like the Pro 55 much better).

Good Ultralight Backpack, But Has Some Big Flaws

I switched from the Exos 58 (M) to the Exos Pro 55 (S/M) - I've had this pack for just over 9 months and really like that it's a lighter and easier to pack than the Exos 58 but am surprised by the updates as several are a step backwards and unnecessary (as they're not weight saving) - compression straps are on top of the side pockets, limiting pocket usability; attaching compression straps limits access to the front stuff pocket; the side pockets aren't waterproof and hold rainwater; the zipper belt pocket cannot be opened & closed one-handed; they removed the extra (underside) brain pocket; the base of the backpack needs thicker material; the toggles to adjust shoulder straps dislodge regularly when taking the packing on & off. I'm also not a fan of the new Osprey sizing as I have a 20.5" torso - at the cusp of being too big for the S/M, but the L/XL was huge on me and sat way too high! Hoping that Osprey fixes these for the next generation of Exos Pro (as most were already on the Exos 58!)

Light Weight And Feature Rich

Wanted to upgrade my backpack to something much lighter without spending a ton on one of those boutique packs made of dyneema. This checked all the boxes and was an amazing pack for a recent hiking trip

Great Pack

I purchased this pack in March 2023 and have taken it on multi day trips, as well as overnighters. Pros: No problem carrying my gear and food for a week, plus food for a dog. It's comfortable, light and breathable. Love the hip pocket without the zipper. Perfect for quick snacks. Cons: the edge seam running horizontal across the top of the large, stretchy pocket on the outside of the pack is starting to fray. This area has not gotten a lot of rubbing or abuse. It generally holds a visor. Also, the small toggle type fasteners that allow you to adjust the pack length came out of the slot a couple times when taking off or putting on the pack. I ended up taping them.

Great Pack

Im 5'11, 205lbs, a little overweight. Pretty regular dude. The pack fits me great. This is my 3rd Osprey pack(Daylite, Porter) and gave it a good test over a 3 day hike. Very comfortable and I had no issues with any of the mesh backing, fit snug and well ventilated. I hiked with it weighing in at 22 pounds total(including food and water) which was a little more than I like usually, but this hike required me to bring extra. Desert mountain terrain with a lot of thorny brush. It was hot outside. I hike with my tent and everything inside the pack and I hiked with just the flap and left the top bag at home. The hip belt pockets were good for snacks and trash. The side mesh pockets are deep enough on the sides to carry a few items and I like the quick access at the bottom. I was able to fit a good 1.5 liter water bottle in the pocket and quickly access it from the bottom and put it back without having to take the pack off, takes a bit of maneuvering but I got used to it. The compression straps are small but work well. I also carried a 3 litter Gregory water blatter and had no problem hanging that on the inside and running the hose through when I ran out of my bottled water. I'm not a very technical guy and I'm not "ultralight" by any means but I really like this pack. I did 50 miles with the pack and it felt good on the shoulders and body once I really got it adjusted well. This being my first hike with the pack I can't talk too much on the durability but Osprey has great warrantee so I'm not worried about it. Build quality seems strong. Great deal for a solid pack coming in at that lightweight. Highly recommended.
