I commute to work by bicycle and occasionally take long bike trips. I want my clothes, sleeping bag, food, to be dry when I get to my destination. Getting to work and putting on soggy socks is bad. So is crawling in a soggy sleeping bag. This is my second pair of Back Roller Classic Panniers. I put over 20,000 miles on my first pair and they still keep my stuff dry. I bought the second pair so I could have a little more storage space on my next unsupported tour. I've had to replace a few buckles. A couple rivets have popped, and lost a strap.
