Nishiki Men's 700c Pagosa Sport Hybrid Bike $412.52 October 2026 — A Solid City Commuter After 100 Miles, With a Few Drawbacks (Kickstand Solution below!) **TL;DR:** After approximately 100 miles of riding through a major city and on paved bike paths, I'm generally happy with my Nishiki Pagosa Sport Hybrid Bike. The shifting is smooth, braking is reliable, traction has been good, and the bike feels stable while riding. If I had to choose some drawbacks, its weight, my preference for slightly more responsive brakes, and especially the lack of an included kickstand or a convenient mounting location. I eventually installed a **HENMI 2 Holes Bike Kickstand from Amazon (HMF-B09P20-Pro+ https://a.co/d/0hw47sPb )** using additional M6 hardware. Overall, it's a capable hybrid bike for recreational riding and city commuting, but there are a few things I wish I had known before purchasing. 1. My Experience After Approximately 100 Miles I've owned this bike for about a month and have ridden approximately 100 miles, primarily throughout a major city and along paved bike paths. I'm not a professional cyclist, so this review is written from the perspective of an everyday rider who uses the bike for transportation, exercise, and recreational riding. 2. Braking — Good, but I Wish It Were Slightly More Responsive The brakes have performed well overall, and I haven't experienced any significant braking issues. However, because I frequently ride through a busy city with pedestrians, intersections, vehicles, and unpredictable traffic conditions, I personally wish the brakes were a little stronger or more sensitive. I prefer brakes that respond more immediately with less pressure on the brake levers. I brought this up with a bicycle technician, who explained that tightening or adjusting them any further would not be recommended. Based on that feedback, I understand the brakes are functioning as intended, and this may simply come down to my personal preference rather than an actual mechanical issue. 3. Gear Shifting — Smooth and Reliable I've had no significant issues with the gear-shifting system. Shifting between gears has been smooth and consistent throughout my rides. One thing I noticed is that certain front and rear gear combinations feel and sound more natural than others. For example, when the chain is positioned toward opposite extremes of the front and rear gears, I sometimes hear a slight clicking or rubbing sound. I asked a bicycle technician about this, and they explained that this is generally normal because certain gear combinations cause the chain to travel at a diagonal angle rather than following a relatively straight path. This is commonly referred to as *cross-chaining*. Since learning this, I've become more mindful of selecting gear combinations that maintain a straighter chain alignment. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the shifting performance. 4. Traction and Road Conditions — No Complaints So far, I've experienced no traction-related issues during normal riding. Most of my riding has been on paved city streets and designated bike paths, including occasionally damp or slightly wet pavement. The tires have handled these conditions without any noticeable problems. However, I haven't ridden this bike in moderate or heavy rain, primarily because I'm overly cautious about exposing the bicycle to unnecessary moisture, corrosion, and potential rust. Therefore, I can't comment on its performance in heavy rain, standing water, or particularly slippery conditions. 5. Stability — Great While Riding, but the Kickstand Situation Is Frustrating In terms of actual riding stability, I have no complaints. The bike feels balanced, predictable, and comfortable to control on the types of roads and paths I regularly use. **My biggest frustration with this bicycle is that it does not come with a kickstand, and finding a compatible aftermarket kickstand was surprisingly difficult from Amazon.** Traditional center-mounted kickstands aren't convenient for this frame, and chainstay clamp-style kickstands can interfere with the brake and gear cables running alongside the frame. This became particularly inconvenient when stopping around the city, where I frequently need to park the bicycle without leaning it against a wall, pole, or another object. Fortunately, after considerable research and trial and error, I found a solution. 6. Kickstand Solution — HENMI HMF-B09P20-Pro+ ("HENMI 2 Holes Bike Kickstand for Ebike, 24"-27.5" Bicycles, Max Load 132LB") https://a.co/d/0hw47sPb **using additional M6 hardware listed below** For anyone purchasing this same bicycle, I wanted to share the kickstand setup that worked for me. **Kickstand:** HENMI 2 Holes Bike Kickstand **Model:** HMF-B09P20-Pro+ **Mounting hole spacing:** Approximately 40 mm (1.57 inches) My Nishiki Pagosa Sport has two existing mounting holes near the rear wheel that align with the HENMI kickstand's mounting bracket. However, the holes on my particular bike were not threaded, meaning I couldn't simply screw the bolts into the frame. I needed additional hardware to secure the kickstand from the opposite side. **Additional hardware used:** - 2 × M6 × 30 mm socket-head bolts - 4 × M6 flat washers - 2 × M6 × 1.0 nylon-insert locknuts - Metric Allen key - 10 mm wrench **My mounting arrangement for each hole:** M6 × 30 mm bolt head → flat washer → HENMI bracket → bicycle frame → flat washer → M6 nylon-insert locknut The biggest challenge was the limited space behind the mounting holes, particularly because of the nearby rear brake rotor. Positioning and tightening the washers and locknuts required patience. I initially considered 35 mm bolts, but they extended too close to the brake rotor. Switching to 30 mm bolts worked better for my setup. My final approximate clearances between the installed hardware and the rear brake rotor were: - First mounting hole: 8.1–8.3 mm - Second mounting hole: 6.9 mm The 30 mm bolts ended approximately flush with the outside of the locknuts. After installation, the kickstand deployed and retracted smoothly, held the bike at a normal leaning angle, and didn't exhibit any noticeable movement or wobbling at the bracket. **(Sort of) Important:** These measurements are specific to my bicycle and hardware. Anyone attempting the same installation should independently verify the frame's intended mounting points, bolt engagement, secure attachment, and brake-rotor clearance before riding. I also recommend confirming frame compatibility with a bicycle technician rather than assuming that any two matching holes are designed to support a kickstand. Although I'm happy that I found a solution, I really wish Nishiki had included a compatible kickstand and parts or provided a more straightforward mounting arrangement. Weight — A Little Heavier Than I Would Prefer Another area where I think this bicycle could improve is its overall weight. I'm not a professional cyclist, and I understand that hybrid bicycles are generally designed to balance comfort, durability, and versatility rather than prioritize minimum weight. However, I do wish the Pagosa Sport were a little lighter. When riding through the city, I typically carry a U-lock, a companion security cable made of multi-strand steel, and a backpack containing general cycling essentials. All of these items add noticeable weight to my overall setup, particularly when accelerating, climbing hills, or carrying the bicycle. A lighter frame would certainly be appreciated. That said, I recognize that this is a **hybrid bicycle rather than a dedicated road bike**. Road bikes generally prioritize efficiency, aerodynamics, and speed, while hybrids are designed to offer a more versatile and comfortable riding experience. I've also read discussions on Reddit suggesting that road bikes can sometimes offer a speed advantage of approximately 1–4+ mph compared with hybrids, depending on the rider, terrain, tires, and riding conditions. I haven't personally tested that comparison, but it helps put my expectations into perspective. For my purposes, the Pagosa Sport provides a reasonable balance between everyday practicality and riding performance. Final Thoughts After approximately 100 miles, I would consider the Nishiki Men's 700c Pagosa Sport Hybrid Bike a solid choice for someone interested in recreational cycling, paved bike paths, and everyday city riding. **What I like:** - Smooth, reliable gear shifting - Good braking performance overall - Stable and predictable handling - No noticeable traction problems during normal riding - Versatility for both city streets and recreational bike paths **What I would improve:** - Slightly more responsive braking, based on personal preference - A lighter overall bicycle - An included kickstand or a more convenient mounting solution - Clearer manufacturer guidance on compatible kickstands and installation hardware My biggest criticism isn't necessarily how the bike performs while riding, but rather the inconvenience of finding and installing a compatible kickstand. For a bicycle intended for everyday use, particularly in urban environments where riders frequently stop and park, I think having an accessible kickstand solution should be a basic consideration. Despite these drawbacks, I've enjoyed riding the bike and haven't experienced any major mechanical or performance-related problems during my first 100 miles. **Overall, I would recommend the Nishiki Pagosa Sport to someone looking for a practical hybrid bike, provided they're comfortable with its weight and understand that installing a kickstand may require additional research, hardware, and effort.**

I bought this bike a month ago after the bearings went out on my Nomad 3.0. I have put around 70 pavement miles on it and really appreciate the ride of this bike. I changed seats since I already had a more comfortable seat and added a kickstand. The gear shifting is very smooth and I like the grips. Most of the cabling is run through the frame which makes it nice for transporting on my bike rack without worry of cables being pinched. My only surprise is the amount of braking force needed to do a hard slow down/stop. Just a noticeable difference from my previous bike that I have learned to account for.

I recently bought a Nishiki sport bike. It was very easy to handle and very fast. The folks at Dick's were very helpful and kind. Thank you.

Good bike for the money. Has front and rear disk brakes that I wanted for my new bike. It has good Shimano gears. Only complaint is that bikes today don't come with a kickstand and i am not sure if I could install them on this bike due to the cables.

I bought this bike a couple of months ago and it is an excellent and quality bike. The quality is much better than the bikes that I got from Walmart. I recommend dicks for bikes! Than other stores!

Rick in the bicycle section quickly assisted me find a perfect bike for my use case (commuting to work) he checked over the bike adjusted it for me and gave it a quick tune up then explained to me the details I should know about it when servicing it or adding things like a new kickstand which was very helpful. I'm glad I went out of my way to go to this Dicks location I had a much better experience than when I to visited the Boca location, thank you Rick!

Love it so far, great for the price. Nice hybrid bike that works for what I need.

I returned a similar Schwinn bike because the gears and shifters were terrible. This is a way better bike. Shifts flawlessly and its gear ratios allow much faster speeds than whatever Schwinn has.

Bought this bike for my kid which can be used for around the neighborhood.

I really like this bike. I should have purchased it sooner but I kept pouring money into my old DiamondBack Edgewood. After having the neck upgraded and changing the seat from the old bike, Ive got better riding bike with a much better gear ratio and a quality smoother shift from gear to gear
