I just got these in for a week in Yellowstone national Park. I bought the XL pant, the waist is the size of my medium/large snow pants from Northface. Horrible sizing. Do not buy these pants if you’re expecting them to be large enough. They are not XL in the waist. Horrible product !

These are pretty sweet, but the stitching pattern ruins them completely. The down settles around the ankles after about a month or so of daily wear. Multiple attempts at redistributing are in vain. I honestly can’t believe they thought that this wouldn’t happen. I knew the moment I opened the package. Unfortunately, I needed them for a camping trip so I neglected to return them immediately. They just became my house pants for a bit before end up in a drawer with all the rest useless gear. The down baffles/pockets need to be stitched closed. Each little box a separate unit. Everything else about them Is awesome. The fit. The waist is sturdy enough to handle and hold the web belt. The stretch is great. If you simply alter your stitch pattern, they’d be 5 star.

When the temps drop down, down. Not just a little cold. These pants are perfect. I have used them for Ropes Courses, Outdoor Instruction, under my bunker gear on late night/ early morning calls and they work great.

[Employee of mountainhardwear] This pant is very unique as it doesn’t have many competitors and sits in a field that is very important but not often appreciated: leg comfort. The Stretchdown is comfy, cozy, mobile, and of course- stretchy! I wear these all day just at home, running errands, and even hiking and ice climbing in cold dry conditions. Perhaps the best piece I have ever owned. 10/10.

After extensive use in extreme cold (sub -20 C) as a daily pant they were unable to be an effective piece. They fit well, are true to size and look great, but not effective. All the down migrates away, after a month or so of use, from key areas to the cuff presumably due to the design and stitching.

I'd purchased these pants a few weeks ago in anticipation for my winter excursion as a ski resort worker, initially I was very hyped on the quality, comfort and versatility of these pants. I'm unsure if the amount I've used them at this point has caused them to lose so much loft, but it seems premature for how new these pants are. Luckily I got them on a deal and only paid 3/4 the full price- but compared to other down pants I've owned- I'm not sure these stand out a whole lot. I will say that I get more compliments and inquiries about the pants than just about any other article of clothing I own, but style isn't the only thing that matters; especially in negative temps. They do add a decent bit of warmth and if you size up- they're great for layering. I also noticed the women's cut felt really contoured as opposed to the men's cut, and opted for a men's small over a women's medium- which is great only due to the fact that the men's version comes in my favorite forest green color. I'd confidently say these pants are great for walking the dog, cold hikes, casual trips around Portland when it snows 2"- but for someone seriously looking for a long term set of puffy pants, maybe pay less for a more durable product that will last you at least a season. I'm 4 weeks in and probably retiring these as my mountain puffy pants because I don't want to ruin them- which sucks because I love how they look and fit! Just genuinely trying to give some input as someone looking for pants that would keep me warm on the slopes all winter, honestly feeling a little let down and hope to inform anyone else in the market for similar pants!

I bought these for a three week Himalaya Trek in November. After hiking all day over rock and snow, they provided the perfect evening pant as the sun disappeared and the temperature dropped. It was like I was walking around wearing a lightweight sleeping bag. The fit was perfect and very minimal wear with lots of use. On the really cold nights I would sleep in them. When not out and about they are morning pant as the wood stove heats up our house.

I saw US buyers have short inseam selection all the time but never see this option for Canadian buyers. Why this could happen? It is just not fair to short guys in Canadian customers.

I bought these to use in cold temperatures (~30F) and they are fantastic. So far, I've worn them around town in Bishop to walk around at night or get coffee in the morning. The morning temps were in the 20's and my legs were very comfortable. I'm going to try them for cold camping as well but I imagine they will do very well.

My husband suffered a stroke a few months ago and he was always cold... until he got these down pants! He wears them daily and he says they feel like comfy sweats!

[Employee of mountainhardwear] I am an athlete for Mountain Hardwear and I've been wearing mine every day on a recent trip to Iceland. They are by far my favourite winter pants I've ever had. They fit the gap between an everyday pant and a winter pant. . The reason I think they are a game changer is because you don't feel like you're wearing anything, they are light and soft and move with your body so well. Because of this my friend Jimmy and I hardly ever took them off all trip (we each had a pair). They totally replaced any pant I'd usually wear, yet when you're outside and its freezing and a howling wind, they are completely windproof and you don't feel the cold at all ! They are amazing! Great for hanging out in, even in the cabin, but especially when it's cold and windy outside. I only use mine for strenuous climbing or hiking up a steep hill, if it's below freezing. I generally run hot so these are perfect for lower temperatures. Great work Mountain hardwear !

Working as a guide in both the Alaska Range and the Andes in South America. In both these climates, I have had the need for solid, insulated puffy pants to keep me warm in extremely cold temperatures. I would not, however, recommend the Stretchdown Pant for these types of adventures. With that said, though, this stretchy, slim fitting down pant is a dream for comfort and wearing casually around camp in cold conditions. The website recomended I purchase a size medium based on past purchases, but according to the sizing guide I was on the cusp of a large and medium. I decided to go with the large so the pants would not be restricting in any way. I definately made the correct sizing choice! The Strechdown Pant is stuffed with 700 fill goose down and are very warm! This pant would be much too warm to do any type of high output activity here in the relatively mild PNW. Lucky for me, I wanted these pants to hang out in around camp or in the parking lot at the resort. Its a bit early to be hanging around in the parking lot of ski resorts yet, but cold nights playing games with friends, i was definately happy to have these as a part of my kit. They are so comfortable and non-restricting, that I was sad when it was time to take them off to get into my sleeping bag. Additionally, i really liked the added bonus of the integrated web belt. This feature was an excellent design feture to ensure an excellent fit! The pockets on the stretchdown pant were large and comfortable, however, I would have liked to have at least one rear zippered pocket in addition. The last thing i would recommend for these pants to make these a much more versitile piece of winter or high altitude gear would be to add full side zips to allow to be taken on and off without having to remove your boots. This is an extremely comfortable and warm pant that i would recomend to anyone who is looking to be warm and cozy in cold or winter conditions.

Finally a pair of insulated "puffy pants" that don't fit and look absolutely ridiculous. Even though I was skeptical at first, I actually love these pants. I'm an author and adventure journalist who spends at least half of the year living out of my van for work with my family. In the colder months we bounce back and fourth between the Rocky Mountains and the southwest deserts. Although we have a heater in the van, I like to spend lots of time outside watching the stars in the evenings. I also wanted a warm pair of pants to keep me warm on multi day ski tours and hut trips this winter. I'm 6'2" 215 lbs and the large/long fits me perfectly. I love the "Stretchdown" material. These are surprisingly comfortable and well fitting. I appreciate the slim fit of the pants. It really helps avoid the bulky feeling of other puffy pants on the market. They fit nice and snug but with enough room for a base layer underneath if you'd like. The waistband is nice and comfortable as well. They're packed with 700-fill down so they'll be great in sub freezing temperatures. These are great for four-season camping, backpacking trips in cold temperatures and high altitudes, cold belay sessions, apes ski, multi day ski tours and hut trips, and overall just hanging around camp.

I am a climber, skier, and runner in the PNW. I want my gear to be lightweight and effective. I am usually a size medium 32x32 and these pants fit perfectly. They are impressively slim and stylish (for a puffy pant) while still retaining room for a base layer beneath. The waist cinch is well done. I recently took this pant on a trip to the Grand Canyon and loved its warmth and comfort at camp, where it was just above freezing. I think this pant will be sufficient by itself down to freezing and well below freezing with a base layer. This is not your puffy pant for Denali or anything, but I think it will be great for me here in the PNW car camping in the colder seasons and backcountry camping on multi day ski tours. It packs up small but provides a surprising amount of warmth.
