Bought this as a winter base layer. Been wearing the Crater Lake Hoody for years—been through four of them. Best base layer ever made. Always a large. The XL in this one is roughly equivalent to the L Crater Lake. Quality shirt, but the sizing is something else. Size up! Straight facts.

Had it a few weeks now. Super comfortable. However within a week of having it some of the seams started to come unstitched. Hoping it lasts because it’s a great shirt otherwise

Bought a 2nd one. The first one is 2 summers and 100+ miles old. Material is silky soft and durable. The shoulders and waist have little to no wear or pilling after 100 miles with a 40L pack. To be the perfect sun hoodie the hood needs to be 10-20% larger with a closure at the neck. This would allow the hood to be pulled further forward (it can always be pulled back) to better protect my face and neck.

I actually meant to purchase the Crater Lake hoody (which I have and love), but when this one arrived instead (my mistake!) I decided to give it a try anyway. He seems to really like it and is looking forward to wearing it fishing.

I'm 6' tall, 225 lbs, and the XL fits me very well. I'm not particularly big in the chest & shoulders. The fabric is stretchy, but a more muscular man my height & weight might find it snug in the upper body. The hood does not have any way to cinch it down around your face to keep out cold winds; it's fairly open, and the top rim is kind of like a visor. I wore it for the first time tonight during a very chilly softball game. The hood fit well under a baseball cap, pulling the sides more snugly around the sides of my face to keep out the cold wind. I haven't laundered it yet, so I don't know if the visor-like rim will hold its shape. It's thicker and warmer than a sun hoody. I was running in the softball game but it was very chilly and I didn't work up a sweat, so I can't attest to its wicking properties. I wore an Icebreaker 150 Zone merino t shirt underneath.

These things are the best. Super comfy, breathable, but they're the layer that always comes with me. Either by itself to just give you a little warmth or buried under 2 more layers so I can still use the hood, it's the go-to pullover. You know the cartoon Doug? Where he just wears the same outfit every day? I bought 3 of these so I can just be like Doug and wear the same thing every day. I'm 6'1 230lbs and the XL fits great.

Bought this for winter running. Can either be worn alone, with a layer underneath it, or as a base layer under other warmer or waterproof layers. Very stylish too, I've found myself wanting more of them to have for my workouts AND just wearing throughout the day. Seems durable too. I also suspect that I will wear this piece year round, even as a sun shirt. I'm 155 lbs and 5'10 with longish arms. Medium fits perfect.

I bought this for backpacking but I have found it is universal between backpacking and splitboarding! I climb with just this layer and a shell and it is incredibly warm. I will be purchasing another one to permanently dedicate one to my winter touring set up. I took this shirt on the Uinta Highling Trail that I completed August of 2022! One of the best soft good purchases ever! Go one size bigger than your regular shirt size if you buy one. The construction on this is amazing!

Got as a base layer for backpacking. I'm blown away at how well this seems to keep me cool without letting me get cold. Colorado winter/spring 50's down to 30's while hiking. Seems to wick moisture well, especially around my back. Fits pretty snug, which took a sec for me to get used to, but ended being great, especially under a jacket. I'm 5'10 175 lbs with broad sholders and chest.

Works perfect for skiing..base layer is all u need under jacket..hood works well too under helmet..fits tight so u might want to buy size larger.........

Got this in green it’s durable and has a normal fit not too baggy. Super comfy it’s what you’d expect when it comes in you won’t be disappointed.

I typically end up shedding my fleece when going uphill in the winter, but then as soon as I stop for a quick break my lightweight base layer is too cold, and merino wool isn't an option because that gets way too hot... This hoody solves all of that. It's more substantial than a lightweight sun hoody, and despite being made from a thicker material it has a really nice feel to it. It looks and performs great on it's own, and then it disappears under other layers. Seam construction appears to be very high quality as well. And I'm not a thumbhole guy, but they don't get in my way or catch on anything. I'm 5'6", 160-165 lbs with an athletic build, and got this in a medium which is the size I wear for just about everything. I saw some other reviews that mentioned fit being a slight issue, but IMO this fits exactly the way an athletic top should. It's trim but not too slim or overly form-fitting, and the torso and sleeve length is just right. It has the optimal amount of stretch and is not constricting in any way. The hood is the perfect size as well, and I really appreciate that it has a lower profile which kept it on my head in windy conditions above 12,000 feet on Longs Peak at the beginning of October. The max afternoon temp at the trailhead was about 45 degrees, and I was super comfortable all day. I'd say that if it's going to hit 50 degrees at any point during a high-output kind of trip like that, then this piece will probably be too warm. Once the temp approaches freezing level (especially with some wind), I've been adding a layer. I'll sweat during strenuous activity, regardless of temperature, but this hoody dries out quickly, and I found that I didn't get so chilled during breaks because the thicker fabric offers a tad more insulation than a lightweight layer. Hopefully the design doesn't change, I think MH really nailed it with this piece!

I am climbing guide based in Moab and I need and use gear that can operate in a wide range of weather while I adventure in the canyons of the Colorado Plateau. I was expecting something a bit different when I ordered this hoody. I am 6'2" 225lbs with a positive ape index and I found this XL sized hoody to wildly mis-sized. I typically have no problems with sizing MHW tops but occasionally do with bottoms. Typically, if the top is operating as a next-to-skin base layer I go a Large and if I want to wear it over something or as the outside layer I wear an XL. This hoody, in an XL fits like a tight Large which makes it bit uncomfortable to wear around. It is a warm layer which would be great as either an under-jacket layer (which is the only way I can wear it) or as an outer layer. If you get the right size I think you'll be happy. The soft and stretchy fabric is great next to the skin and the stretchiness does aid in making it a bit more comfortable if you ordered the wrong size. I like the cut of the sleeves both for look and function.
