Named after the mythical creature in Nordic culture, the Grendel is a unique monster cross bike built for aggressive riding from gravel grinding to ultra XC racing. Built on a Tectonic® T2 butted aluminum 29’er hardtail frame with front shock, road drop bars, and optimal tire clearance, the Grendel strikes the right balance of agility, responsiveness, and comfort.

Needs Expandability

This bike is really the best value for your money, given what is out there. Even so, there really needs to be some way to run a larger front chainring. I was able to get a 38T by pushing it out 2mm with spacers, but that is it. I'm now trying to replace the rear cog with a 10t. Without a larger front chainring, you really just spin out. I suppose I'm a strong rider, even in these rolling Texas hills. The groupset and suspension are amazing, though, except for this one flaw.

A Name To Remember

Mongoose- a bicycle brand name growing up that would follow me the rest of my life. This is my first new bike purchase and I am so glad I went with the Grendel. From fast, safe shipping, to assembly, the entire process was incredibly smooth. Pretty straight forward putting it together, never having put a bicycle together in the past; quality is great and the ride is phenomenal. I did change out the tires but nonetheless the tires it came with are good. I find the price paid is fair and would definitely choose this Grendel again if given the choice.

Very Conferrable Bike

I took it for one five-mile test ride, and I was totally satisfied. I am a two hundred pound, 59-year-old rider, and this bike was amazing in the bumps. My only complaint is that the brake cable was rubbing on the crank arm, but it was an easy fix with a zip tie to the chainstay tube near the bottom bracket.
