Lightweight But Not Durable

The first time this was used, the finish chipped on the blade. Other than that, just what I expected.

Decent

Comfortable and lightweight for backpacking. Works well with smaller branches.I don't recommend it as your only ax. Will need something heavier for chopping and splitting heavier pieces.

Coghlans Pack Axe

Purchased this for use camping. Used primarily to split cut wood into kindling sticks for camp fire. It was solid, lightweight and held its edge beautifully. For such a small and very inexpensive hand axe it proved itself to be a great tool. With a sturdy canvas cover for the axe head and proper care I don't see why this product will need to be replaced for years. Coghlan's Pack Axe is a terrific addition to my camping equipment and would recommend it for a variety of uses.

Good Feal

Hatchet has a good feal and swing to it. It is weighted just right. Only complaint is that it could stand to be a little sharper.

Works Great!

I have already tested this out and it works really great. Holds an edge well and fits perfectly in my ruck sack!

Good for small limbs for kenneling, not for login' though.

Wouldn't Buy Again

Very cheap paint job that flakes off way too easily. Also made with cheap metal. I like the sheath and handle though.

Performs Like A Toy

Not at all sharp, not enough torque to really make kindling without a lot of extra work, and not much good at chopping roots of long dead trees that litter my landscape. "OK, tell us what you really think about the axe Barbara." I'm not happy with the axe. I may try to sharpen it.

Great Product

Light weight and easy to use. This is a great tool for some one that goes back country camping and requires a light and easy to use tool.

Camp Hatchet -- Coghlan's Pack Axe

Ok, it's a hatchet... not an axe, but I'll let that one slide. I bought this hatchet for camping and hiking. very lite, large head, and fairly well balanced. The cutting edge did have a bit of a burr from the factory so I hit it with a sharpening stone right out of the gate... cutting edge was nice and sharp. I only used the stone to get rid of the burr. Cuts nicely, and the sheath fits very well. The only problem with the sheath is that the belt loop actually causes you to wear it with the cutting edge hanging down, so I simply attached a carabiner to it and hung it on my hiking backpack. Very nice HATCHET overall.

Better Than Expected

Bought this for a last minute weekend hike just to have a lightweight axe with me. I was surprised at how well it worked. The axe held its edge after a weekend of chopping firewood and building a lean to. I fully expected to be resharpening or throwing it away after my trip but it held up just fine and is in my pack for next time.

Good axe lightweight when sharpened properly will split wood like a knife through butter also well balanced

Good product although very dull out of the packaging at time of purchase. Once I sharpened it up it was a nice little hatchet.

Don't Let The Looks Fool You

I HAVE USED THIS ITEM 3 TIMES SO FAR AND HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH IT. WENT IN THE WOODS AND CUT UP FIRE WOOD FOR COOKING AND CAMPFIRE. LIGHTWEIGHT YET STRONG.
