First off, keep in mind that I baby my gear and am experienced in carbon fiber engineering and manufacturing - bottom line, I treat my gear well and understand the limitations of carbon fiber materials intimately. With that context out of the way, this probe is incredibly fragile to the point that it's unfit for its purpose. I went to use it for the first time, and it shattered at a joint immediately, in relatively soft snow. I've used probes before, and I wasn't putting loads of side force on the probe in a way that might be expected to damage it. I have a lot of trouble believing CAMP ever tested this probe if it broke so easily. I highly recommend choosing a more durable probe that won't leave you high and dry on dangerous terrain. It's clear that this is the lightest probe on the market for a very good reason - it's too light to function. The assembly is admittedly quick and easy; a cord simply catches in a slot on the end you'd hold on to, and I could see it saving time in an emergency. However, I couldn't trust this probe to work properly once assembled, so I'm not sure that's of benefit.
