Arc'teryx Men's Sylan GTX Trail Running Shoes

About This Item

This is the GORE-TEX shoe for mountain runners looking to move faster on technical trails – no matter the conditions. The midsole’s rocker geometry drives propulsion and is made from InFuse, a light, highly responsive EVA and Polyolefin composition that provides rebound and absorbs shock. The grippy Vibram® Megagrip outsole uses LITEBASE technology to shed weight without sacrificing performance, and aggressive lugs deliver a confident bite. The fit locks tight, and a knit collar seals out debris.

Updated with a PFCec-Free DWR (Durable Water Repellent) treatment.

Design:

  • Knit collar seals out debris and integrates with the tongue to create a secure, comfortable sock-like fit
  • Integrated tongue pocket tucks away laces to prevent snags and untying
  • GORE-TEX provides waterproof and breathable performance
  • Durable, flexible upper weaves PFC-free recycled nylon yarns to create a high level of abrasion resistance and tear strength

In-Shoe Comfort:

Extremely Unstable

This is the least stable trail shoe I've ever used. Even with similar stack heights, other shoes have been far more stable. I wish I had read reviews before buying it.

Hard And Narrow

I had the Norvan 3's for 2 years they were awesome - very soft and long lasting cushion and durable (I bought a second pair). Then I bought and the Norvan 4's - they were as hard as stone and I returned them. Then I contacted support to ask about the Sylan's comfort and softness - they said, and quote, "they are softer than the Norvan 3's". Great, I thought, so I ordered them. Not true. The Sylan are as hard as the Norvan 4's. And, the Sylan's are very narrow. The Norvans 3 were wide (like E width). By comparison, the Sylan's are probably C width. I RETURNED THEM. I really like Arteryx - The products are durable and well made. However, they seem to have done something with the shoe sole compound that they are now all very hard. Also, not sure why the width would be inconsistent across the trail running line. I want to buy more shoes from them, but they are making it difficult...

Best Shoe!

Have had these shoe's for about 8 months and love them. I use them more for hiking and every day use. I have ran in them a few times, but more of a road runner so cant speak for the trail running aspect. The shoes are very comfortable and hold up very well. They are true to size and the tractions is great. I have taken them on multiple over night backpacking and trekking adventures on the trails. The waterproofing works very well. So many shoe's say they are waterproof but lie or eventually lose the waterproofing, these do not! I love that I can hose them off while wearing them once I get home from a trip and my socks aren't event damp. Only complaint is, I wish they offered more colors. Highly recommend these shoes for hiking and everyday use.

Great Shoes

I've been ordering the Norvan LD 4 GTX for a couple of years now & love them. I tried to order these in the same size that I get in the Norvan, but they are a lot tighter towards the front of the foot. I'm going to try ordering a half size up & see if that helps. The Norvan are my go to shoe for work. I own an outdoor lighting company & i install on all kinds of terrain. I've never had a pair of shoes hold up this so well. They never fall apart. I will stick with this brand for a long time that's for sure.

Color Bleeding

I love my pair of sylan pros so I figured I’d love these too. Unfortunately there is intense color bleeding throughout the white part of the shoe and I also noticed these are a tighter fit than the pros.

Great Comfort And Stylish Too!

Comfortable, solid, and stylish! These shoes are great, love the feel and quality.

Most Excellent!

I'm insanely impressed with these shoes. Like everyone else, I've tried just about every imaginable trail shoe and the Sylan is far superior. I have very regular feet and a normal'ish gait, these work perfectly for me. The finish is outstanding!

Perfect For Me.

I've bought the shoe for daily walking, I had foot surgery and the rounded sole helps me to keep pressure off my heels and toes.

Comfort!

Probably the most comfortable shoe I have ever owned. I have only walked in them at this point but it was -20c with snow and the grip the shoes provided was amazing!

Perfect Pnw Shoes!

Varies slightly from your normal size (we've had both issues men's seem to run slightly small, women's slightly large) but GREAT shoes for the PNW or similar climate - comfortable, gortex, extra rubber and FEATHER weight. Include a special little pocket for your tied laces, to keep them dry/out of the way. Though these shoes are meant for trail running, they work well for everyday...especially in our wet climate. Edgy style and functional. Say good bye to your rubber boots?! Both male and female in our house share the love for these shoes.

Great Shoes

The shoes are great. Very comfortable and soft to walk or run in. The rubber is grippy and the little pocket on the shoe tounge to stow away the laces is very practical. I am yet to see how durable they are since I just got them. So far so good.

Wonderful

Was initially leery of rocker styling, but jumped in and love, love, love them! Felt a bit different compared to Norvan LD 3 GTX that I wore all summer, but now don’t notice difference. They are beyond comfortable…don’t hesitate!
