The Gap Between Sizes Small And Medium Is Too Big

I normally wear size small. I have an older Squamish in size small that was a great size. I could use it alone or over a proton ar jacket. My old Squamish was getting a little rough looking so I got a new in size small, but the in the new sizing size small is much smaller. I can only just wear it over a base layer. This is OK sometime, but quite often I need it to boost the warmth of a more breathable insulation layer. The new Squamish is too tight for this, so I got a size medium. The medium is bigger than the old small and much much bigger than the new small. The product is still very good, but the new sizing does not work for me.

Critical Layer For The Tmb

The Squamish hoodie became the layer I reached for every day on my recent TMB loop. Its packability and breathability was perfect to grab on windy Cols, or cold morning starts. Layered with an alpha direct fleece, it was warmer than expected on our coldest days on trail. I reached for this layer every day and will keep it in my pack for every climb or long day in the mountains. And it looks good enough, I’ll wear it in town too.

Product Appreciation

This is a great breathable jacket that I have been using daily. I love all of the products that this brand has to offer and would love to wear some of your products as I am growing in the mountain community here out in the mountains of Northern California.

Great, But Prefer Older Models.

Still my favorite wind shirt, but I miss the Velcro cuffs and soft hood / zipper chin guard on the older models. Fabric also seems more stiff, but this will likely fade with time - as my older hoody lasted a decade!

Give It Pockets!

I like that it's packable and super light. Windproof, not so much. My biggest complaint is that it doesn't have pockets for your hands.

Lacks Pockets

This lightweight hoodie doesn’t have enough pockets. It has one single chest pocket and no more I don’t wear it much because I hate carrying items in my pants pockets. I wish I had returned it.

Fantastic Quality

I use it for climbing in windy conditions . It protects my back really well and keeps me from catching cold

Hassle Free Layering

This hoody is built for abuse, extremely packable, easy to put on and take off while climbing in the alpine or at the crag.

Sizing Issue

This is a strange review but I write to maybe help others. I have 20 years of Arcteryx gear that I absolutely love- usually. And that includes the old Squamish hoody which I still wear most of the time when a breathable shell is needed. But Arcteryx has decided that the fit needs revising so that size medium stays the same and Large is now larger. I am a standard fit jacket, but a large fitted jacket in the old system. I have found 2 items now that are fitted in the new sizing system and they are gigantic on me. At 5'11" and 180lbs, they are way too long in the arms and hem, way too large overall so it feels like I am wearing a parachute. Then I tried the medium and yep- too restrictive and tight. So if this is not your problem, you should absolutely get this jacket, it may be Arcteryx's most versatile. Not sure why the new sizing system was introduced, but it just doesn't work on some items for a guy like me.

Best Value To Weight Ratio

The Squamish has the best value to weight ratio. It fits in my backpack and barely adds weight yet when it’s windy or an evening chill comes on it’s right there to help. I’ve worn it in broiling sun as a sun shield too. It’s great gear for the California lifestyle.
