Comfort For Days!

I bought these and they are the most comfortable sneaker I have ever had. The toe box is wide and provides so much cushion and space that I can wear them all day long!

6 Month Update - Don't Last

I left a previous review for these shoes and gave them 5 stars because they were so comfortable. Sadly after 6 months they've already started to fall apart and haven't held up with what I'd expect for the cost. They're still comfortable but I wouldn't tell other people to buy them just because they aren't durable at all. The first hike I wore them the plastic layer around the toes started to peel off. Which was disappointing to say the least. I'd recommend other brands that are more durable, these aren't it.

Really Disappointed In The Timp 5 Design

I'm really disappointed in the Timp 5's. For some unknown reason, Altra decided to make these more narrow than the Timp 4'a. For a company that markets itself as having "foot shaped" shoes, this redesign baffles me. I've worn previous versions of the Timps without issue. Attached are photos showing blisters where I've never had them before- at the widest part of my big toe. Another photo is of my little toe - blackened from rubbing against the narrow toe box of the Timp 5's. I will likely lose this toe nail. I've never lost a little toe nail before. Why Altra??? Why? If you are going to market your shoes as "foot shaped" they shouldn't be causing people to lose toe nails from the narrow footbox. Less important bits: Also - the shoe laces were weirdly too short. The Timp 4's were perhaps slight too long. Maybe compromise on a length between the two??? The loop on the heel is too small to put a finger through, rendering it useless to help pull on the shoe. Either make the loop big enough to be used, or don't add one. On the positive: the heel is well constructed. The cloth lining is a bit more durable than the Timp 4's.

Some Good And Some Bad Changes From Timp 4

I've tried the Superiors, Timps, and Olympus and the Timps are my favorite by far - just enough cushioning to feel supported, but not so much that I lose foot feel or feel like I'm running in platforms. Tongue is much improved from Timp 4 (that one was stiff and cut into the ankle until it softened up a bit) - it's cushioned and much softer. Otherwise, the toe box feels more rigid and less comfortable than the Timp 4's. It sounds like a small thing, but I really miss the pull tab on the back of Timp 4's - big enough to loop a finger into easily to slip the shoe on and off while standing. Not a huge deal, but the pull tab on the 5's is small (though still big enough to put a carabiner through, thankfully).
