For many years I’ve been a huge proponent of Altra. I have bunions and planter fasciitis and they have helped immensely both in running/walking shoes and as my patrol boot. Over the last few iterations I have purchased they just don’t feel the same. This boot particularly causes immense inner ankle pain when laced up on the higher hooks but when not laced as high they are very loose and wobbly. I also suggest sizing up . 5 size. Never wanted a goretex boot due to hear but their selection is sparse. Altra would do well to get back to its roots with the classic boots of Lone Peak etc and give normal color choices such as all black for patrol boots.

Longtime Altra customer here! I usually wear Altra’s Experience Wild trail runners, having gone through about 4 pairs over 2yrs. I spent a long time researching a great hiking boot before buying these - only requirements: adequate grip, waterproofing, and support. Since my trail runners had been so great, I decided to trust them with my hiking shoes. After 6 months of owning these, this is what I found wrong with them: - My feet ACHE after anything longer than 5 miles in them. I’m used to a 0-4mm drop but there is zero support & my feet do so much of the work on the trail. - The vibram grip kinda just sucks. Compared to the trail runners, the lugs are not as deep & have scuffed away so easily after >10 hikes. - Waterproofed quite well, and I was very happy with this feature for a while. But let down when I watched my partner remain dry in his Scarpa’s, stomping through streams that went right up to the top of his boot, while my feet got wet when the water seeped through the tongue section. And what I’ve found that’s great about them: - They’re easy to lace & a great fit with the usual wide toe box that allows anti-blister toe socks. Does run small, I will say though. - Breathable! Used them on the Hinchbrook trail in North Queensland & my feet stayed relatively cool in the heat. Overall, a 3/5 from me. They missed the mark on a few important features with these. I would love to see some improvements on the support & grip in the next version but I think I’ll be buying a different brand for my next hiking shoe - sorry Altra!

I’m a size 11 in shoes and a 11. 5 in sneakers. I ordered an 11. 5, and they’re too small. Suggest sizing up.

If you buy these pleases adapt the eye hooks at the top. They will hook your shoe lace loops or catch the side cushion foam or your pants and trip you. I do like these, but be aware of this issues!

I tried this new style thinking it may be the same as my lone peaks . I should have listened to all of the reviews, they were 100% on . Way too tight , and I have small narrow feet. Need to return

Worn for 3 hikes only. I did a 9 mile hike that had rough terrain, loose big rocks & partial climbing. The foam trim had chunks of material come off. Really disappointed on the quality tho it's waterproof

I bought these for a backpacking trip and was testing them out inside. The inner ankle where the tongue is connected is hard and rubs the ankle bone. I tried different ways to tie them to put less pressure on the ankle and it did not help the pain. I even tried a thicker sock and no luck. I am really disappointed because they are super comfortable if not for the horrible ankle bone rubbing.

I bought these for hotter climate like Arches, Bryce, and Zion parks to hike and for longer distances. Unbelievable comfortable and lots of traction I needed. Love these!

I want to love them. They are extremely light and the ankles feel supportive without digging. Unfortunately they are a half size too small for me. I was also disappointed to see they arrived dirty and scuffed, with muddy soles and dog hair inside and out.

Finally found a hiking boot that works for my wide foot and narrow heel! So comfortable... feels like wearing a running shoe. But has the support, durability, GTX and traction I like for hiking on snow, ice, and dirt. And waterproof + zero drop too! Lace system makes it easy to adjust for different socks. Just feels good to wear, which I have not yet found in a hiking boot. And I have tried a lot!

I wore these hikers during my recent trip to Northern California. My feet stayed dry during heavy downpours of rain on trail hikes and walking on the beach. My only problem was the tongue on my left shoe rubbed against my ankle. I wore thicker socks and that helped the situation.

At first I loved these shoes. On my first day they were comfy and hadn't been tested in the rain. After riding my bike for 30 minutes in the rain my feet were soaked on top. I looked inside the shoe and felt the tongue and saw the watermark. The tongue, which is a substantial part of the top of the shoe is NOT waterproof. I don't understand why this isn't a waterproof tongue? It's false advertising. 2 Stars just because they are comfy.
