Color

First time buying these. Not sure yet on how they perform but the color options are awful. Would you add some neutrals that aren't stark black or white? Taupe, stone, charcoal?

Best Shoe Ever

I am honestly so happy with this shoe. It is so comfortable and fits my very wide feet like a pair of gloves. I just walked 35k steps exploring NYC in them all day and somehow my feet didn’t even hurt. Really good cushioning, shape, and the materials look and feet great. They’re even cute. Couldn’t be happier!

First Zero Drop Shoes

It took a little getting used to but I LOVE the shoes…but absolutely hate the shoe laces which come undone in seconds. Only option is to double-knot. The 100% synthetic, plastic lace is prob great for keeping a trail shoe dirt-free, but slippery and a hassle for a daily/gym shoe. I ‘m hoping someone at Altra sees this comment b/c this will prob keep me from buying another pair,

Horrible Shoes

Although I wear the Escalante Racer 2 Road Running Shoes and am very happy with them, I decided to try the Escalante 5. What a huge mistake! First of all, I don't like the squishy insole but the worst thing is the "tacky" sole that sticks on the pavement when you run. I run with my feet low to the ground and am a forefoot striker. What potentially happens with these shoes is your body continues to move forward while one of your feet becomes stuck. You can end up falling forward which is what happened to me and I do NOT fall—ever—until wearing these shoes. I’m not quite back to running but will be soon. These shoes are in a donation pile for people who walk (they might work for them). I absolutely hate that most running shoes these days are designed with high-stack, thick soles and high-tilt (heel drop). That is one of the reasons I tried the Escalante 5 shoes thinking they would be similar to my Racer 2 shoes but perhaps with a slightly different cushion. I failed to realize the issue with the soles until it was too late. I am happy with my Escalante Racer 2 shoes and will stick with them. I do not recommend these shoes.

Sturdy

I’m a loyal Altra fan, and no other brand compares for fit and function. Altras consistently feel comfortable on my feet, which matters because I have a history of plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendinitis. These are my second pair of Escalantes; my first were the Escalante 4. The Escalante 5 feels noticeably different, with a firmer, sturdier sole. That works well for me since I prefer a more stable shoe over a soft, cushioned feel. The Escalante 4 seems to have slightly more noticeable arch support, but the 5 still felt great right out of the box. I received them last night and wore them the next day for cross-training and weightlifting. I also plan to use them primarily for indoor and treadmill runs. I wear an 8.5, and they fit true to size. The black-and-gold colorway looks sharp, too. Along with my Torins, the Escalantes are my go-to workout shoes. I hope this model stays around.

Escalate 5

I bought my first pair of Escalante 5’s at a store and loved them SO much I am buying a second pair…(the store doesn’t have the color selection as the website). I LOVE the wide toe box!

Not The Same As The 4

Love my Escalante 4’s. So disappointing that wide width is no longer offered.

A Little Odd

I found these shoes to be an odd shape and fit oddly compares to my other altra shoes. And they didn’t have the cushioning I thought they would have.

Finally

I tried on (no joke) 35 different pairs of sneakers and finally..these won my heart. They are so comfortable and perfect. I normally wore a 7 in previous years' Brooks glycerin, but went up to a 7.5 in these.

I Have The Black Ones And The Prev Grey Model

Love these shoes for gym ,weights and elliptical . I use the Olympus for trail running, please bring back some grey colors !,, some of these colors are not good, tan,,,light blue , lots of white . Bring some good colors back , fun but nicer. Also more grey ones ,,thanks !,

Comfy

really comfortable and versatile. I use them for lifting at the gym but still great cushion for the running and long walks.

Comfortable

I like the soft tongue - it's easy on my ankle. The width is just right for me. Too deep for my feet but I added an insole and that works.

I Love The Toe Box

I love the toe box of this shoe. I have recently been dealing with a Morton’s neuroma and this shoe provides the appropriate amount of stability at the heel and space at the toe. I do not wear this shoe for running.

Too Narrow

I’ve been wearing Escalantes for the past several years and the toe box for this version is way too narrow. It’s disappointing bc the Escalante was the only shoe I could wear on a regular basis.

Most Comfortable Shoe Ever. Have

Most comfortable shoe ever. Have many colors. Wear white with sundresses.
