Doesn’t Stack Up To Torin 8 Imo

I went back to the 8 after trying the 9 for a couple months, it just doesn’t support me as well. I feel like the outside of my feet aren’t supported enough, and the heel isn’t enough. The insole feels like it has more bounce to it than the 8, but at some cost. I use these for lifting and light cardio, love the 8 and buying a couple pairs on sale.

My Favorite Torin Since The 4. 5 Plush

This is my favorite Torin since the 4. 5 Plush. I'm an OG Escalante Racer guy, but I love this shoe. It's a great ride for days when you want to rest your feet and calves. It's not light, but it doesn't feel heavy. I didn't notice any decrease in my turnover. The Vibram sole is perfect for wet pavements and thunderstorms. It sticks like a soft Pirelli tire. The sizing guide suggested I go wide. I didn't, and I'm glad. I have wide toes, not wide feet, and the standard foot shape last provides plenty of room in the toe box. In the past, when I've sized up in width or length, I've found my feet sliding around, which is worse for my toes.

Great Fitting And Comfortable Shoe

Recently got into the world of Altra and picked these up for my daily short runs. The fit and feel is incredible. I use the Torin 8 for my daily shoes around town and I really like how more streamlined the Torin 9 is. There is less cushioning than the 8 but that hasn’t been a bother at all for me. Have been recommending to everyone I know who is looking for a no drop running shoe.

Improved But Disappointingly Narrow

the foam feels faster than torin 8, but it feels like each version of the torin just gets narrower and narrower at the midfoot (yes I am getting the wide version). For the torin 8, alternative lacing helped, but harder to do with the new design.

Run Small

These are comfortable, but a little narrow and run small. If you normally order a wide, I would go a half size up. I had to return mine and exchange them for a bigger size. Return was free and stress-free. I wish they made these in a wide in the white. Not nearly as comfortable as their Lone Peaks, but those are going to be hard to match.

90% Great

These shoes were almost perfect. Great sole and shaped perfect for my foot. But, I could not get the tongue to be comfortable. Anytime I would tighten the laces, the tongue would scrunch up and rub the top of my foot raw. Shame because I liked everything else about them.

Good, Almost Great

I'm overweight (250ish) and have a heavy step. I was constantly getting Achilles pain when I was walking anything over 3 miles. I ordered these and a pair of FWD VIA 2s and my problem was fixed. While I think the FWD VIA 2s are perfect, The Torin 9 is just. . . good. The things I love about this shoe are: -They are comfortable with the right amount of cushion for me -The new road vibram lead me to hope and expect that these could be their most durable shoe yet -There is a lot of actual tread underneath this shoe - which is lacking in most modern shoes What keeps it from being 5 stars: -There's something off about the toebox and upper. Plenty of room on the inside of the foot, but outside foot and the vertical space in the upper seems tight. I wish they would have used the original footshape on this model (That being said, there's still more more space in these shoes than 98% of shoes on the market. ) -While I was shopping for an all black shoe, I got lucky because I couldn't have bought any other colors because most of them have an ugly yellow "vibram" in the front of the shoe. (Its a small thing, but it was all I could see when I was checking these out in REI) All that being said. I am keeping these as my everyday shoe because they are mostly comfortable, I got them at a great price, and I have high hopes that they will be durable.

Solid For Daily Runs And Walks

Bought these specifically for the Vibram outsoles. They have not disappointed. Lightweight, breathable, stable and grippy. Due to a calf injury I haven’t been able to run. However, these were an excellent shoe for walking around Japan for two weeks. 170 miles of walking and the Vibram outsoles are holding up well.

Way Too Tight

The toebox completely crunched my feet. These need a lot more room. I can wear escalantes and fwd via, these I could hardly get on.

Drastically Smaller Than Torin 8 Wide

The Torin 9 in a 10 wide is narrower than the previous version. Toe box is cramped and side is pinching my foot. Feel like I'm rolling off the lateral edge of the shoe. Extremely disappointed as the Torin 8 wide have been fantastic work shoes(hospital). Why would you change the sizing?

Uncomfortable

I really wanted to love these but they are just to uncomfortable for me. Although they have good cushioning it is almost like the vibram makes them to stiff. I kept them past the 30 day window hoping they would just break in more but at this point I think I'm just going to give up on them.

Vibram Stoke

Tried these after the provision line was d/c'd. Seem like they will be durable. Run a little snug. Change in style from 8s to 9s brought material higher up the ankles. . . noticing extra pressure and discomfort that is subsiding after being broken in ~50 miles. Excited to get extra miles with the vibram sole!

Balanced

The Torin 9 is a very well balanced shoe. The P35X foam provides great cushioning without compromising ground feel and energy return. The vibram outsole provides grippy ground contact that encourages confidence in every step. In terms of size it runs slightly smaller than my Escalante Racer 2. ALTRA, PLEASE bring back the Altra logo on the lateral part of the sneaker and keep the ALTRA lettering on the medial side of the shoe. Please have the design team take this into consideration on the next iteration of the shoe. I would greatly appreciate it.

Best Torin Yet

Several key improvements over other past iterations of the Torin: * Grippier outsole update (Vibram) * Softer but responsive foam upgrade * Streamlined fit/feel My only complaint is that the size is a little on the small size, even after going up a half size. I think next time, I'll go up a full size. After a long run with a lot of sweat, my shoes dried out and shrank a bit, so now they feel more snug again. Overall, a fantastic shoe as a daily driver and for shorter speed sessions.

Torin 9 Vs Torin 8

BLUF: Disappointed. I ran my Torin 8's into the ground and expected the same fit and quality in the Torin 9 as the successor. Wrong. The 9 fits wayyyy smaller and more snug on my foot. Honestly, a half or more size feeling small. I'd seen reviews about the improved grip. . . I don't see it. In fact, on my treadmill I notice increased slipping especially on hot/sweaty days. For me, this is a downgrade and while I'll use them for some utility, I'll be looking for a new pair.
