This is the best looking shoe in the market ever. I never got a chance to order them though. Please please PLEASE WE'RE make these exact ones again. Well, if there's any tech improvements, incorporate that. This black, white, and red is a fire color scheme. I pray you all make it again soon!!!

I've been wearing Olympus for 5+ yrs. The 4 is my favorite version - so comfortable and great traction! Really disappointed with the 5 redesign and am hoping some of the 4 features will come back!

I didn't even wear these all that much but they started wearing out much worse than most other shoes I've had, especially for the price. I often slip my feet in but that's pretty common and I shouldn't expect this.

Ever since the corporate buy out Altra has forgotten how to build in any kind of heel lock. This shoe also suffers from a tongue that is too short AND its padding stops even shorter. Out of words

Bought for working on my feet on hard surfaces -- this was the only shoe that healed my plantar fasciitis. Tried many other brands and no luck (although didn't try Hokas). Foot shape on this shoe is perfect for my foot. I normally wear size 9.5 in every other trail shoe, but 10 for recent Altras.

I've worn Altra for years though my experience is limited to the Lone Peak and the Timp 1.5 (I have 3 pairs of Timp 1.5 - two are worn around town and one pair are my trail shoes and I consider them the best trail runners I've had. The Olympus 4 out of the box is not very comfortable. It took 3-4 weeks of going to the gym and using them in town to get to a state of general comfort. In contrast, both the Lone Peak and Timp 1.5 were comfortable nearly out of the box. The Olympus 4 is stiff and the materials are just not as comfortable. One thing I noticed is that the heal cup of the O4 is not as deep as the Timp 1.5 and so the O4 tends to slide up/down a bit though I can say I don't much notice it anymore. The flat tongue in the O4 is also IMHO a downgrade. I like a little pad in the tongue to protect me from the lacing. I have yet to use the shoe off road, and I am a hiker, not runner. But was hoping the taller stack height would translate to a little more cushion, as I will need to replace the Timp 1.5, but it does not seem so. Could be because of the Vibram sole, not sure. Overall, I like the O4, but it seems that for the price, the shoe misses some of the things a shoe of this caliber should bring: comfort, ultimate fit, feeling more one with the wearer. One positive thing is I didn't really notice the increase in stack height in terms of stability, etc.

This review is going to be long as it is my heart felt gratitude in getting back my outdoor life again. I hope this review of Altra 4 trail walking shoes will help some of you to overcome your unexplained untreatable foot pain. I am a physician, Pediatrician to be precise, who happen to enjoy outdoor activities when not working in the hospital. i enjoyed my trail walks as a kid, young adult and as a 50+ years old man. However, about 7 years ago I started having pain in the center of my right heel. Initially I ignored it, hoping it will go away and continued my out door activities. But pain progressively increased with walking which made me try ice packing, tennis ball rolling of the heel and arch of the foot, stretching exercises and trying multiple orthotics and silicone heel supports. I used to put my foot in bucket of ice water after walk for several minutes with only temporary relief of pain. I tried almost every make and model of trail walking shoes. I consulted podiatrist and orthopedic doctor colleagues of mine who opined I have what's called ": Calcaneal Pad Fat Necrosis" and told me to give it a rest and hope to get better over the course of time. It was more than 4 years and my foot pain remained the same with no improvement. In 2020 in the midst of Covid pandemic, I visited my daughter in Seattle, WA and we were walking in Pike's Place. My daughter got all worried as i was lagging behind while walking with her and was having a limp. She was well aware how much I loved walking in general. She called Uber immediately and took me straight to to a shoe store in Seattle, WA. We stood in line, waiting for almost an hour ( due to pandemic and limited people store entry) before being helped by a young man in athletic shoes section. As my daughter explained to him about my persistent foot pain and as I put in my medical terminologies of Plantar Fasciitis and Calcaneal Pad Fat Necrosis, he noded his head and brought 6 pairs of different walking shoes. He told me this one ( Altra 4), either you will fall in love or just hate it. More over it came in only in one color, bright red. i tried all of them as i was desperate to alleviate my suffering. When I walked with Altra 4 shoes on, immediately I felt my foot pain easing. He told me to try the shoes for few weeks and if I continued to have foot pain, to return them for full refund. I have used my bright red Altra 4 trail walking shoes since then, for work in the hospital, cycling in my home town and San Juan island, trail walking in my neighborhood, recently did Rim to Rim hike of Grand Canyon and many more outdoor activities. Olympus has come up with different colors since. Few weeks ago I bought pair of Altra 5 shoes and am thoroughly enjoying my outdoor activities. Hope this review helps some of you in enjoying the outdoor activities that i am able to do after a break of several years due to Plantar Fasciitis/Calcaneal Pad Fat Necrosis. Cheers!!

The first few runs I loved these shoes. But soon started noticing wear on the mid-sole and could feel every stone under my feet. I thought this shoe was intended for rugged trail running? Why would Altra use foam? The lugs wore off completely! Poor design. After about 100 miles running I contacted Altra customer service because warranty stated 300-500 miles. They said this was normal wear and tear and they would offer me 15% off my next pair of Altras. They also told me that maybe this happened because of the zero drop sole! Not going to buy another pair of Altras. I want my shoes to last more than 100 miles. Poor design and poor customer service.

Wasn't sure about the custom width up front. Now that I be a few weeks on them, they fit really well and are very comfortable. I wear work boots/shoes all week, so these aren't worn all day, I'd be a light user until spring gets here. It even with the trail soles they are great on pavement.

I have two pairs of this shoe ... one for running and one for work . I'm a Registered Nurse, and on my feet much of the day . These shoes have helped with foot discomfort and help offer great cushion when jogging

I wear a size 15 and this shoe is too narrow, too tight, so tight that I had to wear the shoes without the shoe insert.

I bought both the Olympus 4 and 5 and have worn both extensively. Both are good shoes but I like the 4 better as it fits better and is not as stiff as the 5. The laces are also longer.

Sturdy, supportive and comfortable. Love the fit and wide toe box. Great fit. Hope they're durable.
