Comfortable Good Shoe

My whole family is wearing same model and we'll happy with it

I Love Them

Got tired of Newtons never being in stock for running shoes. I have officially switched to Alrra and these 5s are fantastic so far.

Narrow Toe Box..

I was excited to try out this latest iteration, but unfortunately they made the toebox much narrower than in previous versions. In my opinion, that was one of, if not the, biggest selling points of these shoes. I used to recommend these to all my friends looking to get into barefoot running. Rough decision by the design team.

Not Og Fit!

They're advertised as OG fit but they are noticably narrower than the Torin 9 (standard fit). And over laying the insole from each shoes gives you visible confirmation that escalante is narrower. Altra is gaslighting customers into believing that the shape hasn't changed. It seems like an effort to pander to the mainstream shoe market. The vibe is dead.

Escalante 5 Fit Bigger Than

Escalante 5 fit bigger than previous iteration. I find the shoe to be less comfortable out of the box than my Escalante 4. I do however like the tread material on the 5 compared to the 4. It seems more durable than the 4’s which is ultimately why my 4’s needed to be replaced. Recommend for daily wear at this time.

Comfortable But Quality Issue

Love the new design. Love the white pink and orange. They let you feel the ground a bit when you walk. Classic altra toe box. However I've only worn them four times and the tongue materials are separating. Not the quality I expect. I sent in a warranty claim but have gotten no response.

Most Comfortable Zero Drop Shoes I Have Worn.

First off, these shoes look great. I got the white with yellow and orange and they look sharp. Right out of the box they fit perfect. I walked around the house a few minutes then took them on a two mile walk through the forest. They are so comfortable I literally forgot I had shoes one. They feel like what I have been looking for from zero drop shoes. I have worn Merrell and Xero and these are definitely the most comfortable zero drop shoes I have worn. I highly recommend them. And they are stylish enough to wear out, jogging, running or walking.

Definitely Narrower Toebox Than Escalante 2.

I've run one 10K, two 5Ks, and five 1.5-mile runs in my new size 12.5 Escalante 5s prior to writing this review. I've worn through multiple Altra Ones and Escalante 2s in road running. I wear Lone Peaks daily. I'm a BIG proponent of the toe-box, zero-drop, and breathability. So, I'm a bit disappointed that these have a noticeably narrower toe box that jams in my little toe. I waited this long to review because I wasn't sure if the upper is just "stiff" by comparison to the Escalante 2 and needs to be broken in, but I'm not sure that the stiffness is the issue. It seems like they shaved a few millimeters off the new generation's width. I'll continue to wear them in hopes that they break in, but if I wear through my Injinji socks or feel major discomfort, I just may have to look elsewhere.

These have the wide toe box that Altra is known for. Don't cram your toes in any old shoe.

Good Shoes. Use Them For

Good shoes. Use them for Tai Chi comfortable on the feet and works the intrinsic muscles of the feet!

Great Road And Trail Shoe

Helps my foot stay grounded, flexible, and natural. Altra’s FootShape toe box remains the star — your toes can splay naturally. The laces still have a tendency to come untied though…

I Started W/ The Escalante 1. 0

Firstly, I have a narrow foot and I am a light guy…. . these factors may influence my experience over yours. Yet here I am at the E5. I am noticing that weight increase on the road. The E1 weighed in at 8. 2 and now we’re at 9. 7 ounces. I will say though, the beefed up outsole is probably one of the culprits, but I do appreciate that new outsole material though! I notice that the heel cup is already wearing a hole on the inside…. I am 50 miles in. As related, my first run killed my right heel, developing a nasty blister, but I attributed that to my mechanics since it wasn’t on both feet…. no issue since. The shoe is stiffer and outside of the weight issue, that’s one of the biggest miffs I have with it. The shoe isn’t sloppy nor too restrictive…I think it feels a lot like the 4 in many respects. I am digging it, but lightening it up would make me happy!

Buy A Half Size Up

Usually a 12 . Needed 12. 5 for more width and toe space. Using them for casual walking and outings. No work outs. Like the minimalistic look and color sand/cream color

Please Read This Before You Dont Buy This Shoe

This shoe began falling apart after only a few workouts. The upper has way too much play in it. Save you money and stop spending money on Altra the company has clearly lost the plot.

Too Narrow

I have loved my Escalante's for years. Unfortunately this edition of the shoe has gotten far too narrow especially across the footpad area. Fortunately I still have a pair of the 4's but I do hope they go back to their roots and don't continue this narrowing trend.
