Way Too Narrow

I took a break from Altras for a while and decided to come back to this…and was reminded why I stopped wearing them in the first place. Way too narrow (all over) for a “natural” toe box shoe, and I don’t have a wide foot. Nice cushioning, just wish they actually gave my toes some room laterally to truly allow for more natural foot movement.

Meets My Needs But Wish They Came In A Wide

I’ve worn zero drop shoes forever and needed something with more cushion and heel security while I recover from Achilles tendinitis. There’s enough room for a bridge sole or stable heel cup when I needed to elevate my heel. However, I have a high instep and wide midfoot. Despite alternative lacing method and the stretchy upper I still find too much pressure in my mid foot. Wish wides were available. The toe box, though, has plenty of room for toe splay and the sole is very flexible so the shoe meets my needs in that regard. I ordered a half size up for extra length in the toe box.

Fit Smaller Than Expected

This was my 3rd pair of Altras (Lone Peak, Experience Flow, now these) and I've gotten the same size in every shoe yet these fit more snug at the toe. It's worth nothing that the mesh-like material makes these feel like they will not last very long.

Black Shoes Are Grey

These shoes are labeled as black, which is a common color that folks are seeking, and yet they are not black by any means they are grey. I don't know if Altra just needs to run the ones they've produced out of stock before correcting this or what. All I wanted was a lightweight, wide toe box, black pair of shoes for everyday walking and travels and I'm disappointed that on something so basic as color that Altra hasn't corrected this yet (there are lots of reviews complaining about this going back a ways).

Love Altra Shoes

Every Pair are TOTALLY WORTH the price! My back & legs appreciate Altra!!

I Haven't Tried Them, Recommended By A Podcast

I haven't purchase yet. I just saw them in a pod cast with Steve in "The diary with a CEO" The foot expert. They are out of my budget, I will look for other less expensive for me and my family. Or for a great sale, or discount. I do want to throw away all our shoes after watching Steve's pod cast.

Wanted To Love….

I love the wide toe box on these sneakers So much that I bought 2 pairs But unfortunately in less than a few months they are ripped out at tongue making it difficult to put on without bunching up!

Great Shoe But I Have Holes After Only 2 Months

Love the fit for my borderline D-E width foot. Took a couple of sessions to break in but not bad at all. I use them for gym strength training and cardio there and at home. Bought them mid May and after about 40 treadmill sessions (sub 3 miles or even less each time (pre office work/walk ftw)) and 25 gym workouts (free weights and smith machines. No power lifts, HIIT workouts) plus some stairmaster sessions, inside the heel has already developed holes. I didn't have that with my lone peaks but was surprised to notice it earlier this week. Tread is fine so far still which my old lone peaks cant say the same which is a common issue but ill stick on topic.

Excellent Dancing Shoe

I’m a dance fitness instructor, and Altras are my go-to for dance workouts! I love the zero drop, wide toe box, and cushioning on this shoe. The only catch is that my orthotics are a bit too snug in these shoes, which causes them to squeak while I’m walking. If the Escalante 5 ends up a tad bit wider, that would be perfect for me.

My Absolute Favorite Shoe For Walking

My trainer at the gym recommended Altras to me. I’ve been wearing them to the gym and for walking outside. I have a wide foot and my first shoes were Torins. I changed to Escalante when I couldn’t get Torins in wide. The Escalante fits my foot perfectly. I love the softer fabric uppers and the thinner sole. I find them to be the most stable walking shoe I have ever worn because I can feel the ground. I’m enjoying the new colors too.

Love The Shoe, Hate The Shoelaces

Have bought several of these shoes but every time hate the shoe laces. Too short and never stay tied. I’ve seen so many similar reviews but never see a difference over the years of purchasing these shoes. Love them but do not want to pay this amount to then have to buy different shoe laces

Received incentive

Great Lifting Sneakers.

I normally wear Hoka sneakers but I recently tried these Altra Escalante 4's and fell instantly in love. I feel very grounded while in the gym while lifting and incorporating balance/body weight resistance exercises. I own 2 pair now.

Poor Website

The website literally won’t let me click anywhere without filling out a review first so

Lifesaver But Wear Too Quick

I have been wearing Escalantes for 6 or 7 years now. I got through a pair about every 6 months. These shoes have been a lifesaver for me bc traditional shoes combined with my walking had me suffering through plantar fasciitis, bunions, and metatarsalgia. U fortunately a few years ago, the design of the Escalantes changed and when it did around the 6 month mark my shoes develop holes in the top box and the back ankle area (see pics). This never happened with the older escalante versions. I am forever grateful for these shoes but wish the design was back to the strong material that did not wear out so quickly.

Love These Shoes!

This is my first time wearing Altras and I love them. It has helped some with knee pain. I have 2 pairs and alternate wearing them daily. The only thing I wish was different is the tongue. The tongue came partly unstitched on my first pair and it was hard to get it to stay flat. They took them back and my current ones are fine but I wish they would stitch the tongue on the sides or have something to help hold it in place. It is constantly moving to the side and also occasionally rolls under on the sides when I’m putting them on.
