After A Year, I Still Love This Shoe
I’ve owned previous versions of the Escalante and enjoyed them, but 4 is the best yet. My daily runs are 5-7 miles with regular half marathons. The wide to box really does allow the forefoot to spread and fulfill its biomechanical function. After running in Altras for years, my feet are noticeably wider, stronger, and more stable. Version four is lighter and material, which is nice running in the Texas heat. Despite this, they held up well with only the normal wear and tear expected of a high use running shoe. I will definitely be buying the Escalante again. .

Great Shoe But. .
I love everything about the shoe. There comfortable, zero drop , wide toe box . The only complaint I have is the sole on the heel wears through really fast. Only have about forty miles on these and the sole on the heel is worn already. I have 2 pair and rotate them. I really try not to heel strike also.

Great Comfort
Recommend to my husband by his PT to help with Achilles pain. They are comfortable and we love the wider toe box! They seem to really help.

Best Shoe I've Owned
I have always hated shoes. They never felt good. My toe box was always too small and squished my feet. When I developed issues with my metatarsal, it got worse. On a whim I went to this niche running and hiking store while on vacation and they showed me Altra. I've never felt so good on a shoe! I recently did 60k steps for work and forgot I even had a bruised metatarsal. I will always love this shoe!

Sole Wears Out Faster Than Previous Version
The sole doesn't last as long as previous versions. They wear out a lot faster than previous pairs I've had. This one didn't even last a hundred miles before the outer sole became smooth.

Does Not Last Long
I've had 4 pairs of this shoe and loved the way that they fit my feet. They do not last over 6 months, or less, when used for just walking on sidewalk and treadmill. The most recent pair started to tear after only 1 month. The interior lining behind the foot tears and is painful to wear. The bottom "tread" wears off after month 5. These shoes are too expensive for such low quality.

Super Comfy But Terrible Durability
I love the fit of these shoes, but Altra’s quality and durability is total trash. My shoes are less than a year old and the sole is already half smooth and the inner heal area is tearing apart. These are just my daily shoes and I don’t run on them. Altra’s quality has been going down hill with cheaper materials that don’t hold up. Very sad that they are just out for profit.

Love The Fit
I love how this shoe fits but don’t like the soft sole. To me this shoe would be perfect with the thin firm sole of those solstice XT 3. Then it would be ideal for the gym or everyday wear.

Best Shoe Aive Worn In A Long Time.
I put these on and could hear the angles sing. They fit my feet perfectly. Have a right foot big toe issue. The wide toe box allows my feet room, while the mesh material allows for stretch. Great shoe. Thank you.

Great Fit, Low Durability
This is my second pair of escalantes. After my first pair, I knew I was signing up for a quick turnover, but after wearing my new pair for less than a month, the tread is already gone in the forefoot. This will be my last pair because the great fit can't justify the durability concerns.

Not Enough Volume
I like the width in the front, since I have wide feet. The heel lock is really good and the lacing is much better than most Altras. However the lack of volume in the front upper is a deal breaker. My feet go numb after 30 minutes in these shoes from the extreme squeeze. To make them useable, even for no longer than an hour at a time, I have to remove the insoles to make up some extra volume.

My Go To Road Shoe.
So comfy, just the right amount of cushion. I have wide feet, so these are perfect.

Excellent Comfort But Quality Lacking
Difficult review to write cuz I really like the shoe the lightness, cushion, structure of the shoe if that's the right word but the quality has seem to have dropped being the heel fabric wore out after a few months it's like I have holes in the back heel

Multiple Gen's, And Still Poor-wearing Material
Have lost count how many Escalante's I've gone through, and sometimes I feel like the fool for continuing to buy them. Going back to the 1st gen and now to the 4, fit has generally been great through the years for my needs, however have to give a big zero for durability. Acknowledging that lighter materials will wear quicker, this is ridiculous. The most recent pair of 4's and they look like this with maybe 50 miles on them? It's always the heel and the toe areas that start deteriorating. It's becoming hard for me to keep buying Altra when the uppers are shot long before even having to think about the midsole. This is how it starts, and by 100 miles the back of the heel is falling apart. I have one SmartWool version that interestingly didn't wear like that. Would think there would be a solution to this by now.
