Great Everyday Shoe
I use this as my daily wear shoe. I bought into the 0 drop hype for foot and leg health and so far it's been holding up. The only thing holding me back from a 5 star is I'm not crazy for the tongue, it's a bit thin, so sometimes when I ratchet the laces down for HIIT sessions with sprints I feel pressure in the top of my foot if I don't loosen it up afterwards, but otherwise these are amazing and they don't have the annoying squeak problem of the Escalante 3!

Go Back To The Old Design
I've been buying the Escalante since 2018 as I have surgically corrected feet, and they are the only shoes with zero drop, a wide toe box, and enough cushioning. To echo other comments, seemingly in an attempt to make the shoe "cool," it's gotten worse and less functional. Less cushioning in the sides and heel, the toe box is narrower (this is a big part of the functionality of the shoe), and shoelaces that don't stay tied. The thing is, I'm still going to buy them, but please go back to the design of the 2s and even 3s.

Favorite Altra Shoe Every.
I've put many miles and a few years on my current pair. They are still like new. I'm buying a few more before they're no longer available.

Everything I Wanted In A Shoe And From Altra
My second pair of Altras. My first was the FWD Experience which was a great shoe but I did not enjoy the heel of the Standard fit but overall loved the toe box, foam, laces and quality (I've worn those shoes so much and they're still holding up).
This shoe is the exact balance of stack height, cushion, responsiveness, space and fit that I was looking for. Likely going to continue ordering this line of shoe.
I wouldn't mind an option for a slight heel drop for those of us standing and walking all day for work.

Great Feel But Durability Is Lacking
I have two pair of Escalante 4s I've been alternating since Mar, they have felt great , however at about 80 miles both pair had nearly all of the midfoot and outseide tread worn flat, by 100 miles I was to the foam. Was hoping for a few hundred miles more.

A Different But Good Running Shoe
I’ve been experimenting with zero drop shoes and I bought a pair of these Escalante 4’s . I’ve got a bit over a hundred miles on them now and I like them more every time I run in them . They take a little getting used to and I wish they had a bit less cushioning but they are NOT like a HOKA style marshmallow shoe at all . I like the non-padded tongue and the sole seems like it will wear well .

Cheap Material
The tread on these shoes wore out in three months of light use (wearing to office, running errands). They are clearly made of cheap material. I'm quite disappointment in the quality and I would not recommend.

Very Comfortable
My husband has trouble finding shoes that he likes and these are his third pair. Very comfortable and gives him enough space by his toes, would definitely recommend!

After A Year, I Still Love This Shoe
I’ve owned previous versions of the Escalante and enjoyed them, but 4 is the best yet. My daily runs are 5-7 miles with regular half marathons. The wide to box really does allow the forefoot to spread and fulfill its biomechanical function. After running in Altras for years, my feet are noticeably wider, stronger, and more stable.
Version four is lighter and material, which is nice running in the Texas heat. Despite this, they held up well with only the normal wear and tear expected of a high use running shoe. I will definitely be buying the Escalante again. .

Great Shoe But. .
I love everything about the shoe. There comfortable, zero drop , wide toe box . The only complaint I have is the sole on the heel wears through really fast. Only have about forty miles on these and the sole on the heel is worn already. I have 2 pair and rotate them. I really try not to heel strike also.

Great Comfort
Recommend to my husband by his PT to help with Achilles pain. They are comfortable and we love the wider toe box! They seem to really help.

Best Shoe I've Owned
I have always hated shoes. They never felt good. My toe box was always too small and squished my feet. When I developed issues with my metatarsal, it got worse. On a whim I went to this niche running and hiking store while on vacation and they showed me Altra. I've never felt so good on a shoe! I recently did 60k steps for work and forgot I even had a bruised metatarsal. I will always love this shoe!

Sole Wears Out Faster Than Previous Version
The sole doesn't last as long as previous versions. They wear out a lot faster than previous pairs I've had. This one didn't even last a hundred miles before the outer sole became smooth.

Does Not Last Long
I've had 4 pairs of this shoe and loved the way that they fit my feet. They do not last over 6 months, or less, when used for just walking on sidewalk and treadmill. The most recent pair started to tear after only 1 month. The interior lining behind the foot tears and is painful to wear. The bottom "tread" wears off after month 5. These shoes are too expensive for such low quality.
