Innovative, Good Value Gtx With Some Shortcomings
DISCLAIMER: Returned before use because ended up not needing. PROS: Good value for GTX, full side zip ventilation (surprised no one else does this), feels lightweight and not too crinkly CONS: Fit and feel is very trash bag/poncho like, but good for layering if needed, but not as good for everyday where. I'm 6'2", ~180lbs and ordered the medium. Plenty of length in torso and sleeves which is usually where I get into trouble. I was most puzzled by the volume in the sleeves. They felt like they didn't taper at all which left tons of extra space around my forearms (even with wrist cinches adjusted). Dwayne The Rock Johnson would of course bust out of a medium in this jacket, but I'm convinced the sleeves would fit him fine. Also, the adjusters for the hood are on the inside, which makes for a more sleek exterior, but in my opinion is a disastrous design. If you want to adjust your hood while wearing the jacket, you have to unzip the main zipper quite a ways in order to access the pull-string adjusters. If doing this in the rain you would definitely get wet. CONCENSUS: If you feel like GTX is still a worthy investment (apparently that's up for debate in the current outdoor industry), then this jacket typically comes highly recommended. I targeted this jacket because it was getting hard to find and OR moved away from GTX in their updated 3 layer version and felt like I needed to get it before they were gone forever. Unfortunately the fit, feel, and design elements mentioned above made this a jacket I did not feel great about keeping forever. Will be returning.
