Pros And Cons Of The Genesis Basecamp Stove

This Jetboil Genesis base camp stove with pan set has both good and bad design elements. Here is what I liked about it: it is lightweight and compact relative to other stoves, and the entire set packages up very well inside the zippered bag. The pot, frying pan, and stove nest within each other effectively. The stove simmers extremely well and always lights as long as you turn the gas on enough before adjusting the flame as necessary. The plastic lid has straining holes which is helpful. What I don't like about it is that the plastic lid melts when used with the frying pan. The silicone grip of the handles on the frying pan also melt. Additionally, the windscreen is very difficult to install in the beginning, though I have included some tips below. If I could change this design, I would evaluate the plastic used on the handles and choose a higher heat resistant plastic or leave the insulation off completely and suggest a hot pad. I would also evaluate using titanium for the handles as it is a poor conductor of heat. One possible solution is to use a high temperature heat shrink on the handles. I would look into making a metal lid that doesn't melt while keeping the straining holes, and I would make it easier to attach the windscreen. Windscreen tip: Before using the stove in the field, unfold it and turn it upside down on a counter near the edge. Insert each windscreen leg into its slot on the stove and repeat this approximately 10 times. This will make it much easier to insert the legs when you are at the campsite. Frying pan handle tip: To avoid melting the plastic on the handles, never use them when they are collapsed to the pan; always unfold them before lighting and using the stove. Plastic lid tip : To minimize melting of the lid, do not use it with the frying pan and instead use it only with the large pot. I would rate the stove itself a 5/5, but because of the plastic parts, I am giving the set a 2/5 for all the frustration it has caused. Pictures are available of the melted components but this site is not allowing an upload, least at the moment.

Great product, cooks and boils super fast. Just dont put the lid on the pan

Easy Peasy

Awesome little kit, big upgrade from classic Coleman two burner. Smaller and easier than a full cooktop. Feels more efficient on fuel than other stoves I’ve used. Just a great little base camp cookset

This thing works like a champ. I use it whenever I go motor homing or car camping. Definitely not a backpacking stove, but great for regular camping.

Exceeds Expectations!

After 3 years of use we heartily recommend the Genesis system. We’ve experienced faster boil times, better heat control and much better fuel efficiency than offered by competitive stoves.

Best Tested Dual Stove

After testing out a couple copies, this was definitely the best. The tubes are bigger construction was better safer. Did a great job.

Great Stove With Easy To Find Fuel

If you like to take the hub and spoke approach when camping, this is a great addition. It packs very nice with all the pots and pans. The burner has a lot of control. I love that it is such a stable platform when cooking with a pan. I am trying to perfect my technique for cooking cinnamon roles in the pot. I have cooked them multiple times but am still trying to get it just right. Gotta keep that heat low when cooking the cinnamon rolls. Other great things to consider when cooking on this are fajitas and gyros. So delicious, especially when all you see is nature. I highly recommend this and it was a big hit with my camping buddies.

Jetboil Is Not The Same Company

Jetboil company support has been drastically different and warranty is now under a year. Ask your self before purchase how many times you'll use because they will break. I have had two burners go down quickly and emails support over and over with only one response and then stopped and my genesis system thats expensive is just out side of a year, used twice.

Great Cooking Setup

I only give this a 4 star and 8/10 because the non-stick coating is showing some wear with only a few uses, and I've been very careful with it. The design of the system is great. Cooking with it is a dream. I've cooked meat, pasta, veggies, and breakfast foods like bacon (I understand it's a meat, but...bacon), eggs, hash browns and chocolate chip pancakes. The nonstick has performed flawlessly so far, but this is a niche use item in my cooking arsenal, not my every adventure stove top. I can be hard on kitchen items at times.

Great Packaging To Keep Together!

Great bit of kit to add to your arsenal. It is compact enough to throw in a pack and large enough to make a good feed. Everything in the kit makes sense. The valve for your bottle attachment is inside under the stove, if you are looking for it. Packs up very ergonomically into a pack or whatever you are looking to do. Great to use for feeding kids on the trails. Get one, you will be pleased with the quality.

Easy to use, perfect size to travel with. Works with large or small bottles of propane. Absolutely recommend this stove!

The unit itself is great. Love how it nests within itself and has the integrated lighters. My biggest complaint is that my fry pan had the non-stick coating flake off on the first us while using low to medium heat and a rubber spatula. JetBoil replaced it for me, but I think the bigger issue is that it's subjective on what settings you're on with the knobs themselves. Makes it difficult to determine what level you're truly on, which can easily cause overheating of the fry pan. Otherwise, it's a great system.

Light And Compact

This was a hesitation purchase but now that I have it and use it I wouldn’t purchase anything differently again. The accessories and options with this purchase are second to none. I like the bag, the containment of the items in one pot and the ease of use when starting the flame and the accessories I can add to the same propane line later for boiling water and having accessories. Buy it. You won’t regret it.

Awesome Powerful Stove With Great Temperature Regulation

The stove is high quality and offers power to boil/etc. without sacrificing the adjustability to simmer without burning. Good form factor and great stove overall!

Sooooo Good!

I love that the entire system packs down so small into itself. Only complaint is that the Luna Satellite can’t be used independently.
