I'm 74 years old and had not ridden a bike since my previous mountain bike was stolen around 15 years ago. I'm somewhat overweight and out of shape, and have been successfully making various lifestyle changes in the last couple of years to improve those conditions, and last year I committed myself to finally replacing my bike, too. I mention those things because I did not buy this Giant Talon 4 to use as an XC/Trail/Mountain Bike for which it is designed, but instead chose it primarily for its wide range of low to very low gear ratios available to the rider due to its small front chainring combined with its wide-range rear cassette, all of which makes it possible for this old man to actually safely traverse the rather sloped and hilly roads in my neighborhood and in my neighboring towns to get the increased exercise and enjoyment of exploration that I wanted and needed. The small single front chainring does provide a lower top speed than bikes with a double or triple front chainring, but that's perfectly suitable and much safer for this old man looking for exercise and not for racing around. I wanted a lightweight, durably built, mechanically simple bike. This Talon 4 meets those needs at a great price. The aluminum frame results in a total weight of only 30 pounds, which is important for me because I have to carry the bike up and down one flight of 15 stairs to use it and to store it in my apartment. The frame has great well-finished welds and all of the components are high quality, dependable, and smoothly operating. All of the functional components are mechanical or cable operated, including the adjustable coil spring suspension in the fork, rather than hydraulic, which makes brake cable and shift lever-to-derailleur cable adjustments and replacements much less complicated, actually possible for a handy amateur, and importantly both less messy and less expensive, too. I want to add that additionally important for me due to the "old man" factor in all of this, the low-slung top tube of the Talon 4 makes mounting and dismounting this bike a total non-issue. And the Radiant Orange finish is simply beautiful. It's tone and depth of color is similar to that of a medium-dark orange fruit skin - not at all "electric" or "sparkly" or "psychedelic" - but just perfect, and it draws a lot of complimentary comments from my neighbors and strangers alike, so it seems that others agree. I love it.

Seems Very Well Built
Haven't actually ridden it much yet but first ride seems really nice. Solid build feel. Will update with any changes.
