Fantastic Garmin Model

I bought mine a month ago because my very old one finally died and they gave me a discount to buy this new one and I love it and it gives me way more information than I need but it’s awesome

Well Done!

I really liked the simplicity of my Garmin 530 and the fact that you could set it up to give you just the information you need at the time you need it. The 540 has taken that to another level, with a better screen, battery, and more refined overall. They put a lot of thought in this generation and it is well worth it.

Great Product... It Works!

Very pleased. The Edge 540 is a marked upgrade from the 530. If you've struggled with downloads or connectivity in the past, the 540 will be a worthy investment.

Solid Computer

good computer, was an upgrade from a 530, has better features long battery life.

Not A Step Up From The 530

I was thinking that the 540 would be a step up from my 530, but not sure it is. The graphics and additional features are nice, but I can’t say I like it. The computer boots up faster, but the menu system and trying to negotiate it using the buttons is very cumbersome and difficult. I’ll probably relegate it to the trainer bike.

Happy With This Edge 530 Replacement

Had to buy this to replace a 530 that I lost in a parking lot and got run over by cars. The 530 was great, though starting to be slow to respond. I appreciate the 540's consistency with the 530 plsu some new features -- especially (so far) being able to either shift gears or swipe screens from my SRAM satellite buttons on the shifters (haven't decided yet which I like better.) It's kind of weird that the unit is a little bigger than the 530, but font sizes on screens are smaller. I still don't see any need for touch screen so 540 is the way to go.

Battery Life And All The Features I Need

Upgraded from the 500 to the 530. Decided to go with the 540 because of battery life. This unit does not disappoint. I prefer buttons over touch screen because of rain and sweat. Solid unit with good battery life.

Miss My 520plus

I wish I had my edge 520plus back! Just a lot of extra gadgets that I don't use or need.

Poor Quality

After a handful of rides the elevation features stopped working. My 530 did this too which is who I “upgraded”. Clearly a known and unresolved issue.

With It Came With Better Instructions

After about a month of use, I like the screen size, still need to fine the the setting. Battery life for now is great. The. 540 plus has too many features. If I could I would trade the 540 plus for a 520 plus. The 520 is much easier to navigate.

Useless Piece Of Scrap!

I have been unable to get my Edge to set up or work! So far, it’s been a piece of junk! Very dissatisfied with the setup instructions.

Good Feature Set - Very Useful - Not Perfect

The Edge 540 brings together some of the information I like to have at hand when I ride on roads and trails. I like that it shows how much of a hill is ahead of me. I like the altitude information and find it amazingly accurate. It also shows alerts from my Garmin Varia bike radar, so I don’t have to keep my phone on constantly. Some of the things that are less than excellent: the side buttons (6 of them). It isn’t always obvious what each one does. Much as I like the climb display, it comes up automatically and blocks out other features like the map display. Warnings that pop up are often trivial; “animal nearby” was my favorite, while alerting me to a pothole I had already passed was runner-up. Sometimes my old eyes can’t read the alerts while I ride. I get alerts that a popular local rider has been where I am; I’ve never met him. Perhaps some of these will be less annoying after I’ve used the device a while.

When It Works Right It Is A Good Bike Computer

I have had it for about two years. It is now putting the wrong map of the ride and the wrong date for the ride. Guess i will go back to Wahoo

Okay, Not Great. Need Software Fixes.

has a few bugs that you would think the software updates would address but not as of yet. trouble syncing with connect and strava. constantly switches activity from road to mountain bike even though road is selected.
