More Room For Travel

I bought this so we’d have more room inside our vehicle when traveling. Overall it’s good and serves the purpose. It’s a little bouncy when empty but was stable once the bags were added. The increased air noise was a little more than expected but the reduced gas mileage was less noticeable than expected. The carrier is pretty light so one person can carry, but it requires two people to put on top of our QX80 and a ladder to reach the far side locks. I think a shorter vehicle could be managed by a single person. My biggest regret is not getting a carrier that opens on both sides.

I bought a Thule top carrier with the cross bars and attachments to help with my cross country travel with work. The added space even with the smallest top carrier has been significant. So thankful I don’t have to pack my car to the brim anymore. The instructions are only photo based with little to no words and it definitely took three of us to get everything set up and level/even. You might get by with two people if you both can lift something heavy above your head but the third person to align helped. As for quality the rack and feet etc were great, the carrier itself is a little on the thin side with the internal mechanism to hold to carrier open easily breakable if you aren’t careful. I wish it was a little more durable but it appears to keep everything dry and do what I need it to. There is a whistle when you drive but I only notice it from time to time. Overall I’m satisfied with my purchase and will definitely be using my Thule on a regular basis.

Just What I Needed!

This product was just what I was looking for for my Subaru Crosstrek. We had downsized recently to a smaller SUV and needed a bit more storage for camping and trips to the cottage. The Pulse M has really done the trick and we were super pleased with the quality of the unit as well as how easy it was to install on our vehicle!

Works But….

The mechanical mechanisms are clunky to use - closing the box and turning the nob for example. The hinges are wobbly and one broke recently as we prepped for a trip. They are overpriced for what you get.

You Get What You Pay For

The box holds a good amount for its size. Although the box itself is rather flimsy. The wind noise isn't the worst at highway speeds. Although at highway speeds, even with the clamps super tight, the box will rattle from the wind. For the price point, I think it could be better.

Easy To Set Up And Use

If you need a bit of extra room on your trips, this box is perfect. Currently being used on my wife’s Impreza and she loves it! First use was on a 7 hour drive and basically forgot it was there, no noise and minimal wind resistance when set up properly.

Bought this for a camping trip up at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The carrier performed perfectly. Installation on my 2019 Rav 4 Adventure with OEM roof rack was quick and easy. Carrier was secure the whole trip with no adjustments needed. No noticeable wind drag or drop in gas mileage. Loading and unloading was easy relatively speaking. So far I am a happy customer.

Not The Thule I Had Before...

I bought a Thule box in 2009, it has been the most wonderful box ever. It was irreparably damaged to the point that I had to purchase a new one. The new box that I purchased looked the same, but the material that it is made out of is thinner/lighter than my old box, and it opens only one way. My old one was built better, and more functional, and more safe since you could access it from both sides rather than just one. The locking mechanism is the same. I hope to get the years of service out of my new box that I have out of my old one.

Poorly Designed

I recently bought the new Thule Pulse and was shocked to learn that it only opened on one side. That makes it much more difficult to load items into the unit. On top of that, it secures to the vehile by screwing in (4) clamps. Due to the unit only opening on one side, it is VERY difficult to even reach the back clamps. Also, the screw part of the clamps sticks up about 3 inches. That makes it more difficult to store things around the clamps. For instance, I was trying to load golf clubs and I had to put them on top of the screw-in part of the clamp. I was not able to load them into one side and slide them to the other. Of course, without being able to open the other side of the unit, and then rasiing them up onto the clamps, it was very difficult to load the golf clubs into the unit. My neihbor has a Thule that secures with a snap down clamp that does not stick up like the pulse and causes much less interference with the items being loaded.

Perfect Fit For My Hyundai Kona!

I recently started looking at various roof boxes as I was in need of more storage space since my Hyundai Kona has a limited trunk capacity. After some research, I ended up purchasing the Thule Pulse M as the dimensions were perfect. The roof box is currently attached to a 3rd party roof rack/crossbars; the clamps seem to be able to attach the box universally to any type of roof rack. When it comes to the storage space, I'm able to store a bulky graco stroller, an infant's "pack and play" crib, and a large duffel bag and yet still have room leftover for additional items/backpacks. The roof box also comes with two adjustable straps to tie down any loose items, but I suggest purchasing additional bungee cords to keep everything in place. I've also taken it out in a snowstorm and heavy rain and everything has remained completely dry. Overall worth the purchase!

We recently took our first trip with it on our Subaru Crosstrek (about 700 miles round trip) and it worked so well! PROS: So much added cargo space, very little noise, easy to install and feels secure on the crossbars. CONS: For the “best on the market”, it feels a little flimsy and the locking mechanism is finicky.
