There is not adequate padding (very thin coating of rubber, maybe 1/8 inch, on top of hard plastic) on the bottom to safely carry a composite kayak. I will need to add padding if I use it to carry my Kevlar boat, otherwise I would be concerned the slightest bump would crack my kayak. Thule really should specify this in the description. It’s probably ok for a plastic boat.

After only a couple uses, but having had the cradles on my car for a few months, I went to tighten the straps that attach to the crossbars. Firstly, the straps barely open enough to fit over a wingbar evo, secondly, the one piece where the strap slots in to hold in place had completely torn. Turns out the ends are just plastic and the metal I side doesn't go all the way out. I also have one screw (not the same cradle) stripping badly. Poor quality product.

Been looking to pick up a j-cradle style kayak roof rack for a while and the Hull-a-Port XTR ticked all the right boxes. It safely holds the masks in place while you get them secured. The added strap retainer makes for an easy time securing the straps prior to loading the kayaks. The cradles mounted seamlessly to my OEM RAV4 roof rails. Transported my kayaks over 300 miles without any concerns or loosening. Folding flat, the cradles generated very little road noise. Definitely recommended by me!

I carry two kayaks on my van when we travel for our annual vacation. Since I am a senior citizen, I needed a product that was easy to install and reliable. I found both of those attributes in the Thule Hull-a-Port XTR kayak carrier. It was easy to install and my kayaks fit perfectly on the carriers.

I bought this a month ago and I am so please with my Thule - Thule Hull-a-Port XTR Kayak Rack. It is so easy to install and use.

We slapped this rack on top of our Toyota factory racks. They were easy to fit and securely held our pretty long kayak. I haven't tried with 2 boats yet.

Facile à installer et à utiliser. S’installe en quelques minutes et se retire tout aussi facilement, donc aucune raison de laisser le tout en place quand on en a pas besoin. Bye bye le bruit des supports à kayak.

This mount is super easy to use and dont mess up the look of your car if you care at all. They are sturdy and I havent had anything break on me after using it more than ten times so far.

Bought 2 of the kayak holders and they were so easy to assemble. Only problem we had and continue to have are the bow and stern cords. It didn’t really come with a racket like all the videos show. It’s been tough knowing how to assemble the cord to the piece they gave us. Still trying to figure it out. If anyone knows of a video that would be great. Excited to use these soon if it ever stops raining here in Maine.

The Hull - a - port is easy to install. Takes a few minutes tops and holds my 10 foot kayak securely to the roof of my crosstrek.

Very happy with the new updated rack , the strap system used to attach the kayak rack to the load bars is a big upgrade from older models

Purchased 2 sets of the Hull-a-port for our Wrangler JK. Used the the Jeep brand cross bars and the Thule J hooks fit perfectly. Very easy to put on and take off the cross bars. Our kayaks fit perfectly on the Hulu-a-ports and are very secure. We paid extra for the best and we are not disappointed…would highly recommend and would buy them again.

I have 3 of these carriers. They are solid, sturdy add-ons to my roof rack. One of my kayaks is an unwieldy 72 lb tandem. The design of the rack helps us slide it up on top and into the carrier.

I Bought these racks for a 10 Hour trip to North Carolina. these things are absolutely rock steady. The steel Straps that attach to your cross bars don't slip a millimeter during transit. also the strap guide on the top bar of these racks are great so you can set the strap and fold it up without having to climb up on the car to do so. Very pricey as far as kayak racks go but worth every penny in piece of mind.

Like another reviewer, I too have problems with the rack sitting flush on the load bars (evo). This results in the hull of the boat only making partial contact with the hull-a-port base pad. I assume these would work much better on the square bars vs evo. On the plus side, the straps are a nice upgrade from previous generation which uses a nut and bot to fasten to load bars.
