So, I thought I'd dip my toes into the world of fly tying with the Perfect Hatch Intro Kit. You know, the whole shebang in one box – seemed like a smart move to avoid the headache of buying everything separately. Spoiler alert: it was not a smart move. Here's why you should steer clear of this kit, unless you're into comedy of errors. First off, let's talk about the vise. Or should I say, the "vise"? This thing couldn't hold a hook if its life depended on it. The nuts holding it together were more stripped than a reality TV show contestant's dignity. It wobbled like a toddler on ice skates. Not exactly the sturdy foundation I was hoping for. Now, let's address the half hitch tool. One arrived without a hole, while the other had a hole too small for practical use. Attempting to utilize either was frustrating, highlighting the glaring lack of quality and functionality in the kit's components. And don't even get me started on the rest of the tools. They were like a dysfunctional family reunion – barely functional and utterly useless. I swear, I've seen better quality in dollar store knock-offs. Now, onto the materials. Sure, they give you a decent variety, but it's like getting a salad with wilted lettuce and store-brand dressing. The feathers were a mixed bag – some looked like they belonged in a kid's craft kit, while others were rejects from a bird's bad hair day. Long story short, this kit was a comedy of errors from start to finish. If the store wasn't a trek away, I'd have returned it faster than you can say "fish on." Consider this my public service announcement: steer clear of the Perfect Hatch Intro Kit unless you're in the mood for a good laugh. As for me, I'll be sticking to buying my gear from places that don't double as a punchline.

Purchased the kit to help my son get his fly fishing merit badge for Boy Scouts. Vise was broken out of the box so I drove back down and swapped it with one from another kit (associate was very helpful). Got back home and after setting everything up to attempt our first fly and the thread kept breaking. Not sure if the bobbin is too tight, or the thread is just too crappy, but I will be going to an actual fly shop to get my stuff from here on out. I didn’t expect to get top of the line stuff for this price, but I did expect to get a kit that actually worked and did what it said it would do
