My go-to for layering under a Gortex shell. Insulation in the right spots and light enough to not get you overheated.

For years, my backpacking second layer has been a quilted insulated wool/acrylic shirt. I needed to lightsize with something at least as warm but lighter and more packable. This fits the bill. Insulation where you need it and good wind proofing. I'm a 6' 165lb. man and got a large which might be a little bigger than needed, but I have the option to use it as an outer layer. When the wind picks, I put this over my down jacket letting the down do its job without heat getting blown away. Perfect.

This might be my favorite new product from Marmot. It's perfect to throw in a backpack for an alpine day. It keep me warm without being hot and breathes nicely. It doesn't weigh my pack down at all or take up much space. Cozy and useful in so many applications. I can't wait to use it for ski touring season.

Incredibly lightweight, yet warm! I use it for winter hiking above treeline, I do not like large, puffy type layers and this one fits the bill. Great jacket!
It’s the most amazing versatile jacket. Took it to Iceland and wore it everywhere, under a shell where necessary. Love it.

Lightweight and warm with insulation where it counts. Slim profile, packable and washable. Best jacket purchase in a long time. Ordered a second color we liked it so much.

I have used this jacket as my mid layer a few times now. It fits great, provides the insulation in the areas that I need, upper body, shoulders and upper arms, and prevents other areas from overheating and causing sweat. This Featherless Hybrid appears to be the perfect mid layer for my needs. Fit: I was running into issues with other brand mid layers being too bulky (puffy & insulators). This strategic insulation placement allows for excellent mobility and flexibility, while doing activities like snowboarding: grabs, binding-in, etc. while keeping you warm in the more exposed areas of your upper body, where you need it. This removed insulation and low profile on the lower front and rear is also very beneficial in combination with a bib (no matter if you wear the bib under or over). (note: I'm kind of in between Medium & Large sizes depending on the brand. I got Large in this jacket and although the sleeve length is a little longer than desired at rest, when my arms are fully extended they're fine, and I do prefer the bottom jacket length to go below my hips) Insulation: I was looking for something is warm, breathable, but didn't cause overheating, especially in the underarms and forearms. This jacket is surprisingly warm for its weight and even with the hybrid design with the upper insulation placement. I love that the lower front and rear has the thinner fabric and no puffy insulation, yet still provides thin layer of protection & warmth. I just put it to the test against 0ºF temps (prob some negatives in the wind) along with some strong winds at the top of the lifts at Loveland ski resort. This was awesome and I wasn't cold at all. My shell is 20k/20k, so it helped protect the wind passing through, but that wind was cold on my face, yet my body was nice & cozy. I also tried this jacket alone in low temps (10º-15º) shoveling snow in CO recently, and it felt great. You can defiantly overheat while shoveling, and the non-insulated areas of this allowed for better regulating and I didn't have issues with sweating underneath, especially in the forearms. Mobility was totally fine and had no issues while moving snow, it is so light weight it barely feels like you have any layer on! I do have another puff jacket that I do wear for casual outdoor use, and I'll probably keep this one as my mid layer for snowboarding and winter activities. Weight: This is super lightweight and portable if you want to bring it along in a small pack or remove it while on the move.

Perfect layering jacket for skiing. Not too bulky in the midsection but keeps me warm under a shell jacket on the outside.
