Weird collar isn’t worth the “extra protection”. They need to make a realistic collar for real humans. Similarly the hoods on most jackets are ridiculous and don’t lay properly or fit well. Moving on to a normal rain jacket.

Awesome Midjacket For Chilly Days, But Not Compact
Perfect mid layer for your climbing objectives or for calm walks in the city or forest.
This jacket is a proper jolly within your other jackets. I use for everything, from rock climbing to mountaineering to walking in the city when there is a little breeze.
I find it perfect all in the fit, particularly when rock climbing because it doesn't move too much and it is long enough that it doesn't pop outside your harness.
However, there is a small downside, which is that don't really understand. It doesn't fold in one of its pockets, which I find really annoying. How comes that all the others jacket from the same line have this feature, which in my opinion it si something awesome, and this one does not?!
Arcteryx, why did you not.... such a pity.
Nevertheless, I can recommend it if you need a jacket which is a jack of all trades, giving you all the insulation that you need in a breathable and compact format.

Multiple Purchases
This is the fourth Atom Hoody I have purchased for myslef, I have been wearing the jacket for years. I absolutely love it because it is so versitle. Light weight, warm, hoody and not to hot for when the sun comes out. I bought this new one for a trip we are taking to Switzerland and Italy where the weather could be cool and dampm in the mountains and warm during the day in Italy but cool at night. I also bought my sone, my wife and my daughters the same jacket.

This Hooded Style Is A Little Too Thin.
The clothes look great and the quality is nice. My only complaint is that this hooded style is a little too thin.

Yellowstone - Hiking
First of all it's how light it is when compared to the other brands when talking about the same caliber. Secondly, the design is gorgeous, got me lots of compliments throughout my adventure in Yellowstone.

Looks Good But Don’t Expect To Much
Over the years I have buy plenty of products. Sadly a lot of the products have they picked fabrics who is not used to be any sort of outdoor clothing. My jackets have after just one year small threads popping up. This jacket looks good but the quality is poor.

Versatile
The Atom is the layer I reach for without thinking. Morning tours, summit lunches, painting in my studio, climbing, bike rides…it fits into every piece of the day. Warm when you're damp, breathable, stretchy side panels dump heat like their job. It's become part of the rhythm of how I move through the day.

Not Worth The $300
I bought my jacket in 2022, by 2024 the back of the jacket was pulling really bad. For such an expensive jacket with normal everyday use in the sf Bay Area, I didn’t even wear it that munch. For $300 to have a jacket only last 2 years was way below my expectations. I have a Patagonia that is 4 years older and it shows no signs of wear and tear. The pilling needs to be improved, it is very unsightly—literally 30% of the back of the jacket is pilled and the fabric is worn out. Would not purchase again, sorry

Pit Zips Please
While the jacket is very breathable, it would be a great improvement if it had pit zips to be able to fully vent it to a thin under layer. I often use it as a layer underneath a shell like the rush or saber sv, and opening the pit tips on the shell don’t cool me down as much as I would like with this layer underneath. I don’t see many jackets like this with a pit zip which then forces one to use an insulated shell to fully expose a base layer to cool down defeating the other values of layering. Even better if there was a way to attach the pit zips zippers on the shell to the pit zip zippers of the under layer so that they could be opened in one movement that would be great. Perhaps something where there is a double zipper one from the top and one from the bottom where the top one connected the shell to the Atom type jacket while the lower was just the shell. If you zipped the bottom zipper up, you only opened the shell and if you zipped the top zipper down , you opened both. Is still a great product but I feel this would improve it.

Absolute Favorite Jacket
Absolute favorite piece of kit, this is an addition to my previous 2020 Atom, which has been worn most of 3 seasons over the years, sometimes paired with a Squamish hoody for extra warmth and flexibility. I much preferred the old style zippers but that may be a personal preference. Have used the new 2026 version for a few months now, and it’s even better in every other way. Thank you Arcteryx for dependable adventure companions that retain the memories of our travels.

If I Only Could Have One Arc Product, It'd Be This
Perfect all rounder. My most versatile and capable layer. I'm constantly getting caught out in rain and wind and it's never phased. I love the synthetic insulation, weight and feel. Plus the finishing fabric is solid. It's cosy, warm and comfortable. I use it across all season and activities. Perfect to throw on in the morning, no matter what the day throws at you. I'll wear it on a cold run, under my ski shell, and also to dinner. The fit and breathability are perfect. I love being able to wear it for medium output, starting cold, and not overheat. It's predictable and consistent.

A Long Time Winner
I bought this jacket for the first time about 15 years ago and it was time for a new one. Everything that was awesome is still awesome and the fit is still true to size my favorite jacket for cross country skiing.
