This is the second Western Mountaineering Ultralite in our household, my wife bought this one to match the bag I've been using and sharing with her for five years. There's not much left to say about this bag that's not already been heavily written about in the established canon of lightweight backpacking. Yeah, a quilt would be lighter. But I personally thrash around a lot when I sleep, and have never had a quilt stay on me for an hour, much les a whole night. The 6'6 bag in the supplied stuff sack weighs 884 grams, just barely under 2 lbs. If you have been using cheaper bags, you will be surprised how honest or even modest the 20 degree rating is. I've spent many comfortable nights in this bag in conditions below the 20 degree rating. If it's above freezing and you really like your backpacking partner, two people can use one of these unzipped bags as a quilt. The zipped-up fit of this bag is very tight, to keep the bag lightweight and to keep you warm. I'm 6'3 200 lbs. There's plenty of width in the bag for broad shoulders, but I wish they made a longer length than 6'6. If you're over six feet tall and have big jackrabbit feet, you'll likely feel the same. The 6'6 bag is a lot more appropriately sized to my 5'10 wife than to me. Durability is excellent given the weight. I've spent about 100 nights in this bag, and am not particularly careful around it. I poked some holes in the shell the first year I owned this bag by carelessly throwing a bunch of sharp avalanche gear on my bed after a long day at work. I used some small pieces of generic self-adhesive gear repair tape to fix the holes I made in the bag, and they haven't frayed or expanded at all in the past four years. Functionally the durability of this bag is about the same as the 15lb military surplus ECWS bag I use for car camping.

Haven’t had a chance to test the temp rating yet, but initial impression is excellent. Very well built, extremely light, very lofty, very warm. I’m really glad I finally pulled the trigger on it. I’ve always wanted one of these bags. It lives up to the reputation and is worth the price tag. Blows everything else I’ve had out of the water.

This is the 2nd WM bag I've bought and I am convinced no one makes a better quality down.sleeping bag.The attention to detail is outstanding, and every bag is personally signed by the sewer who put it together. One great improvement from my previous bag was a firm strip of fabric along the zipper so that the zipper doesn't get caught in the fabric itself.

The finest sleeping bag I've ever owned. Very well made, very light, very lofty. The stiff strip of material behind the zipper promises fewer zipper snags, a nice feature.

I have used this bag a couple of times so far and am impressed with the warmth to weight ratio. It packs down well with a good compression sack. Most of my backpacking is in Colorado and the nights can get pretty cold (low 30s is common)…I found this bag took a long time to warm up on colder nights. Choose a lower temp rated bag if you’re going to be in cold temps.

Bought this for my wife and she loves it! We have only used it car camping so far but it’s light and packable so I’m suite it will be great for backpacking. I own an older version and love it as well!

Have not been out to test the bag yet; but the quality and weight are very encouraging. Not inexpensive but well worth the expenditure. I like it!

Used on my first camping trip last weekend... so far so good, warm and packs down light... May look at getting a better compression sack as the one it comes with doesnt pack down that small... overall - good first impressions

Another great bag by WM, although I didn't keep it and ended up going with WM Alpinlite instead. Same basic bag, features and ratings except a bit roomier. Using for truck camper so extra weight was not an issue and I toss and turn a lot. Have used bag down to 25F without layering clothing and was toasty warm all night!

Purchased the UltraLite about a month ago and have put it to the test this fall. It has not failed to deliver great nights of sleep! At first I was skeptical about the idea of continuous baffles (for fear of uninsulated spaces), but it has, in fact, proven very convenient to be able to move the down where I choose, for the sake of heat regulation. You couldn't ask for a more packable sleeping bag--warmth to weight is superb. I have a feeling this will be my go-to bag for many years to come.

I got this to pare down my pack weight and to stay warm on cool nights on the Long Trail. I can only speak to the weight as it’s not hiking season in VT yet. And I’m using it as a comforter at home. I love it and can’t wait to sleep in the woods with it.

Western Mountaineering is definitely the best sleeping bag manufacturer. The bag is lightest in it's class, packs small and is super comfortable. I have been in temps as low as 10 degrees in this bag and wasn't a bit cold. If you're considering buying this bag, don't hesitate. It'll last you years and the 850-fill down performs better than even the best synthetic fill.
The Darkness
Bought the bag a month ago and broke it in on a trip to Torres del Paine in Patagonia. The temperature dropped lower that 20 degrees some nights but wearing a base layer made it toasty. I really like the size of the bag, I’m 6’3” 190 and I had plenty of room in the shoulders to sleep on my side. Definitely worth the price. Made in the USA! I cannot speak to the durability of the product but I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t last a long time with proper storage and care. I will update if anything changes.
