I bought this to carry two kayaks as the description says. I have 6 different Kayaks and the rack doesn't fit any of them properly as the directions and diagrams show. The resting arm for the side of the kayak is 4 to 6 inches too short. I'm not sure what size kayaks they tested or designed with but zero of my kayaks will stay on the arm. They all jump off the arm during travel and end up hanging by the straps or resting on the cross bar. It's difficult enough to get the kayak on the roof of my SUV without damage - but then I have to find and balance the edge of the kayak on a less than 1 inch area while trying to strap them on.

Warning For 2 Kayaks!
I have NEVER popped a kayak in decades of packing up boats until now. Additionally, this rack is quite difficult to install on some cross bars. Use a level. Hate it in my marrow and cannot recommend this rack unless it's for a single boat.

We have used this rack for 2 trips. It does not lock, but is east to remove from the crossbar to be stowed inside the vehicle while we were camping. The rack is compact so that we were ae to carry a kayak and a canoe on our trips. After a 5 hour car ride, the vessels were still secure and stable. Excellent product.

Nice quality, this mounted perfectly on Toyota OEM crossbars as the bracket is about 4" wide. I suggest putting the straps on the rack 1 kayak at a time and start with loading the side of the vehicle with the rack farthest away (if not centered) as it is easy to get them tangled and bunched over each other. Also, if you have an SUV you will be hopeless putting on 2 kayaks by yourself if you are under 6' tall. I bought my rack second hand (used once) from a shorter person with a big SUV.

Could Work In Theory
If your car/SUV is high, as ours is, coupled with the wide beam of our kayaks, then the height of our kayak reached 10 feet (3 meters). We found this unmanageable so returned item (very easy through Thule). This could work for a lower roofed car and a less beamy kayak.

Solid Rack, Faulty Wing Knobs
I’ve had this rack for about a year and have used it on numerous occasions hauling 1-2 10ft kayaks. Only issue is that both plastic wing nuts/knobs have popped off. One within a month of purchasing and the other after 7months of use. We now bring a wrench with us to tighten and loosen. Apart from that, it's been a great kayak rack.
