Most Comfortable Sleeping Bag I’ve Owned!

Very comfortable sleeping bag. Great sleeping bag for side sleepers. Roomy and don’t feel restricted. This sleeping bag will keep you warm at 0 c, but you may want to consider a synthetic quilt or wear a down puffer jacket for cooler temperatures to keep warm.

Read The Temperature Rating Before Leaving A Review

The COMFORT range on this sleeping bag is 32°F/0°C. So, that means that your average person will be comfortable at those temps. Simply put, this is a 3-season bag. If you're looking for a 4-season bag, then do your research and buy a bag that is a rated comfort level for subzero temps (Polar Ranger). This is an awesome bag for what it is designed to do. Don't buy a bag with clearly defined ratings, expecting it to perform differently... And then give it a poor review. I own 6 Therm-A-Rest sleeping bags and 2 quilts, and they all perform as rated. I do 95% of my camping in very cold temps and these bags have performed to standard.

Pretty Good With Room For Improvement

I like this bag very much, I used it for almost a year non-stop on a long-distance bike tour and was super comfortable in 99 % of the nights. I do have to say that it is losing a few feathers that are poking through the fabric and the downs are not perfectly distributed/ some light shining through in some places. In the colder nights (the coldest being around -4 °C) I did have to wear socks, thermo underpants and a fleece in order not to freeze. But since the comfort temp is stated at 0 °C and -6 °C is the limit, I think that's pretty fair. The fabric feels super soft and comfortable and I'm a huge fan of the Synergy Link Connectors. I used the bag with a Trail Pro mattress in regular size, but recently upgraded to a NeoAir XLite - unfortunately I didn't check the width of the Trail Pro (53 cm) and ordered a large XLite with 64 cm. The connectors are way too tight with this one and I'd be afraid to tear the bag if I slept in it with the wide mattress attached. I don't know why Thermarest doesn't offer longer straps as an aftermarket option, since it's a bit pointless to offer this kind of feature (which again, I'm a huge fan of in principle), but then make it incompatible with wider mattresses of their own product line.

Update To My Initial Review On 07/02/23

After waiting 3 months (the entire summer) for a repair to my brand-new sleeping bag, Therm-A-Rest finally sent back the bag, saying it had been fixed. However, the tear in the sewing was still there, untouched. They basically kept my bag for 3 months and re-stashed it in a box (not even in the storing bag) without looking at it. What I was considering to be a bad luck when I bought this bag turned out to be a real lack of professionalism from a company that "has a very robust warranty and stands behind [their] product". If you are searching for a high-quality product, I can only recommend going somewhere else.

Love /Hate This Bag

Been using this bag for a year now. Warmer conditions it’s fine. But anything close to 30° or lower plan on freezing. I always have to add a liner and layers of clothing to stay warm. You can take a flashlight and see the down is not evenly distributed or none in some places.

Soft And Comfortable! Roomy For Side Sleepers

COMFORT: First off let me state that this bag is not made of some super thin sticky nylon like some ultralight bags are. This very soft to the touch and extremely comfortable. I actually prefer the way it feels to my actual bed at home that we have spent thousands on. The bag lofts up nice and thick and looks very inviting and actually makes you excited to snuggle down in it for sleep. In addition, the bag is very roomy. It doesn’t feel constricting like typical mummy bags. If you are a side sleeper or toss and turn I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU GET THE LONG VERSION of this bag even if you don’t need it for height. The main reason is that the long version of this bag is also wider in the foot box than the regular length. This provides quite a bit more comfort for those of us who move around a lot at night. Even though the long bag says it’s for 6’6” people I’m 5’ 10” and this allows me to snuggle down into the bag and pull it over my head for warmth as well as leaving me the option to store gear in the bottom to prevent it from freezing. Had I got the regular length it would have forced me to sleep with my head outside exposed and left no room in the foot box. TEMPERATURE RATING TEST: It’s October now and we recently had some cooler weather move in for a couple of days so I used it as an opportunity to test the bag and my new sleep pad. According to accuweather temps dipped down to 40*. I slept outside on our deck to test this bag. First I laid down a thin blanket to prevent any damage to my thermarest from splinters or such. Next was my thermarest neo-air xlite. Finally, this bag which is comfort rated to 32* when you wear appropriate base layers. As stated above, the temps supposedly dipped down to 40* and I chose to wear nothing but my boxer briefs as I figured if I stayed warm then I should have no problem staying warm to 32* with wool base layers as the rating suggest. I can confirm that the bag worked great. No issues whatsoever. I slept all night in the bag and never got cold. Starting off the night when it was around 48* I was actually too hot and had to unzip the bag. At about 7am when temps were at their low I stayed zipped inside but stayed comfortable. The biggest surprise to me was that I didn’t get cold feet. I don’t think I have ever slept outside and not got cold feet. And this is while wearing thick wool socks. Often 2 pair of them! In this sleeping bag I wore no socks at all and my feet stayed warm. This was a pleasant surprise. I now have no worries as winter progresses that this bag will do just fine in lower temps so long as I wear appropriate clothing as suggested. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, if you like to move around at night and don’t like a typical mummy bag this is the one you should get. It’s very roomy and never once did I feel confined. I rolled and tossed all over the place and stayed warm and cozy. I spent hours searching for something lighter and while you may find something a few ounces lighter than this bag it will cost twice as much and will be about a foot narrower in the foot box. I hope thermarest never stops making these bags. I want to save up for the 0* version now for those really cold nights. I now have a thermarest xlite pad, this thermarest sleeping bag, and a thermarest pillow and none of them have disappointed me. At this point I don’t think I would hesitate to buy anything thermarest offers if I needed it because it’s clear their gear is well thought out and quality made.

Nice Bag But Not Perfect

I tried this bag out a few weeks ago on a tent camping trip in Leadville, CO. With over night lows in the 30’s it kept my warm but not toasty. I do like that it is very light weight and can fit into a backpack. This sleeping bag is good I just wish it was a little bit warmer.

Pretty Good Overall, Be Mindful Of The Temp Ratings

Overall this bag is pretty good, cut is very comfortable and it's nice how it stays on the pad. Although I think it sleeps a little cold, and I sleep on the cold side anyway at 5'10" 135 and with the roomy cut there's a lot of extra space in there and for me I'd say it's comfortable down to about 40-45 with an x therm pad and long johns and a puffy and hand warmers. So at 20 or even 30 I think it'd be pretty miserable for me at least.

I own the Hyperion, which is great, but with the ul'ness it's not as easy to us. I love this is still light but full zipper foot box and a little roomier. Unless I have to go ul, this will be the bag I grab for most my trips.

Hot And Smelly...

First off, the straps are a pain with the wrong pad. They don't work well with a Large Uberlite very well. They did work with my old Pro Lite 4 and my old model original NeoAir. Overall, this is a good cold weather bag. I took it out in the upper 30's on the first two nights and I was hot and ended up unzipping it all the way and using it like a quilt. Before I did that, I couldn't get comfortable. I was hot and sweaty in the bag and then cold and clammy out or with it unzipped. Now the bag has that sweaty down smell. - BUT - I have been on in 28 degrees and it worked great. Maybe I'm just a really hot sleeper. I'm 6'0"" and 250lbs and I fit in this bag zipped up with plenty of room to sleep on my side.
