I was trying to replace my old long johns from a number of years ago made by North face. My older ones are thin as silk but toasty warm and stretch in all directions like a second skin. The material on these newer Summit Series is thicker with little stretch (not lie flat under my shirt) and not what I would consider soft as the material is like a woven mesh. Sorry, but I sent back and will just replace the elastic waist in my old ones. Maybe if these were the first I ever had, I would feel differently.
