I bought this backpack for my daughter to start high school. It's not well suited to that purpose and while it looks great and appears compact, it just doesn't hold much and the ergonomics are off. The main compartment far too narrow front to back with no expansion capability, it won't hold more than one binder and one book and that's without a laptop in the sleeve. The cup holder inside the backpack is not only completely useless but gets in the way of using the main space which is already narrow. If the backpack wasn't so expensive, I would just cut it out but we will probably return it instead for something more useful. It actively prevents using some of the space, particularly for students who have little time between classes and just need to be able to slide stuff in and out. The external side pockets for water bottles are some of the best I've seen in a backpack design, they will hold not only the water bottles but the Stanley tumblers as well. The expansion on the bottom makes no sense at all. If you unzip the zipper to expand it and just use it that way, it looks really odd as if you left the backpack partly open, and if you leave it zipped, it takes away part of the internal capacity. Because that space is shared with the main pocket, anything in that pocket shifts down as soon as you unzip it meaning you have to lay the backpack on its back in order to put anything into that bottom pocket. It's a case of a designer or not understanding functional need. The bag is well made, seems durable, and it looks good, but the design features make it unusable. It's a shame.

Compact But Big Enough
I like how compact the bag is, but probably needs one more secure compartment for a wallet. It fits smaller laptops and iPads well, but needs a little jiggling for a 17” laptop. The drink holders on the side are awesome with the latches, as I haven’t had a bottle of any size slip out. The drink holder inside the bag. Don’t see the purpose for that one.
