These seem the same high quality that I have had in the past, they are excellent for travel or for anytime your laundry might get done in a hotel sink or alpine lake. NOTE: like all wool, it's not so much the heat of drying as the agitation that ruins them. Wash on gentle with a front loader (warm water is fine), never use a top load washer, and hang or lay flat to dry. While traveling, a sink with warm water and some dr. B's (can't write out the name or this gets flagged!) is great.

Good brief, light, definitely better than cotton. I would be curious if there could be 100% merino, and not just a blend - maybe it would not last very long.

Buy these for comfort. Over the past year, my collection of Smartwool has grown wildly. A big lesson learned has been that thinner merino wool fabrics are comfortable, but not durable. This is especially true for the "sport" type weave with "vent holes" incorporated into the fabric. Thankfully, these briefs are made of a more solid weave fabric that, in my experience, has been more durable. My purchase of these was to replace the liners in several pairs of Smartwool running shorts that deteriorated. That said, Smartwool has been very good about standing behind their quality and has replaced items for me with no fuss in the recent past. Recommend wearing any Smartwool as an inner layer, under a shell (probably not an issue for this product). If worn as an outer layer: no hydration vests, backpacks, straps, belts, etc. worn over it (for Smartwool shirts). Friction will definitely wear through the material over time. Snagging on a tree limb, etc. will rip this material like butter. Hand wash, hang dry to extend life. This specific product fits snugly, so it may be necessary to size up, or measure and check the size chart carefully before ordering. Bottom line: Smartwool is great, just buy with an understanding of how to care for the product and know that it is not as durable as synthetics, but it is more comfortable and does not retain odors like synthetics do. :)

The durability of the smart wool briefs are better than other brands I have tried. They really seem to hold up to daily wear and last a long time. The underwear are comfortable and fit true to size.
