I bought a pair of the X Ultra 5 Mid GTX for a recent trip to Iceland. While I was not doing any heavy hiking, the hikes on wet rocks, jagged lava, muddy trails and Sandy beaches and even city touring were a pleasure with these boots. Comfortable, lightweight, sturdy and extremely grippy were exactly what I needed. My feet were dry the entire trip! I only regret was not trying this brand earlier. I've worn these on three hikes in preparation for the Inca Trail. No blisters, no hotspots, no need to break them in. The sole is at the midpoint between a trail runner and a trad hiking boot, so not soft but not super stiff. Rocks are noticeable but not an issue. I've been hiking on warm days and the heat on my feet isn't insufferable. I'd but a half size higher next time especially if you plan to add insoles. My superfeet make them a little too tight after 6 miles.
