Overall the shoe has great grip in different terrains but there is a metal plate on the sole of the shoe right where the arch is so for long walks it’s uncomfortable to a point of a bruise

My profession is wildlife and nature photography and it takes me to some pretty crazy places. A recent trip required a 3 hour hike through the Amazon jungle to reach our remote location. I was concerned about keeping my feet dry, well supported, and not crazy hot in the South American heat. I had a well worn pair of X Ultra 4's that are probably the most comfortable of the dozen or so hiking boots I own, so I decided to get a pair of the new X Ultra 5's for this trip. They were perfect! We spent a lot of time scrambling up and down slippery inclines, crossing small streams, navigating mud, and pushing through dense bush. The padded shafts of the boots always made me feel confident I was not going to twist an ankle (which would have been a real problem in our remote location) the grip was very good on every surface I tried, and while I wouldn't describe the feel as "cool" (it was well over 90 degrees F and high humidity every day) my feet never felt like they might melt, something I have experienced in leather boots for example. I was impressed enough that I bought a second pair of X Ultra 5's when I got home, that way one pair can live in my travel trunk and one pair can be available for adventures close to home. Cheers!

I bought the X Ultra 04s in 2023. I enjoyed their combination of lightness and sole stiffness, making traversing through my local White Mts easier. However, when I finally ripped a hole in one in 2025, I debated the merits of trying a new model. The old model had some flimsiness around the toe box, which was quickly ripped up for the type of granite scrambling common in my area. When I saw that the x ultra had been updated, it was a delight. First, toe box durability problem fixed. Second, it fits a bit more snug width wise, which actually works for me. I took it for some shakedowns and then my first big 16 mile 7000’ day. Feet felt great all day. Great work Solomon

Love my fours way better, wish they still made them. Good shoe, but the fours were a great shoe!

Boots are comfortable, but after one main hiking trip the top metal lace catch broke which makes it impossible to pull tight and tie so I have to wrap around my ankle/boot to lace. Also, fabric on one shoe is separated from leather/stiching. Much too pricey for these issues, especially so quickly.

This was my first time buying shoes from this company, and also the very first time wearing them — and they already broke. The quality is terrible. I am extremely disappointed. A brand-new pair of shoes should not fall apart after one use. Very poor craftsmanship and a complete waste of money. I would not recommend these shoes to anyone. Very bad first impression.

Why do vendors ask for reviews right after they ship the product? I am still breaking in these boots, haven't hiked in the rain, up hills, or with a load. Yup, they're boots, but that's about it.

Switched to mid length boots over full height, really appreciate the comfort at mid height, and lightness, but feet still kept dry when raining, so the best Allround lakeland boot I have owned, look and feel durable too, and cleanup very easily, may buy the shou also for dry summer hikes due to comfort and traction.

This is my third pair of X Ultra 5 MID GTX boots. The other two did very well. I have used this new pair on 3 hikes so far and they are just as good as the first 2. Great support and fit plus traction is very good. I hike on the rocky trails of Arizona and the only drawback is the treads get chewed up pretty fast. But, that is true for any boot. These are my main hiking boots and other versions of this boot have gone down to the Grand Canyon and back and hiked many trails in Arizona and Utah with great comfort. I highly recommend these boots for any hiker that prefers the high MID boot, but also requires a lighter weight.

I bought these for my husband, and they turned out to be great hiking shoes. They are comfortable, provide good support, and hold up well on longer walks. He’s very happy with them. I will buy mine soon!
