Wore em on one trip an feet were blistered and ripped one of my toe nails off. I honestly liked them. Just don't get if you have wide feet.

Overall nicely put together, comfortable shoes. Had to go up a half size because I was being squeezed on the sides a bit and I noticed the clicking noise others have reported only in the larger size, so that may be a function of foot position in the shoe. For this shoe to be a knockout, I'd want to see a wide version, quicklace instead of regular shoe laces, and a less puffy tongue; especially given the lack of quicklace, you end up fighting the pillowy resistance of the thick tongue when trying to get the shoes tied nice and snug. I could see some people preferring the pillowy top and not minding a looser tie, but for me it's just slightly too far in that direction. Still, a nice boot that I look forward to getting more use out of.

I hike short trails, 2-5 miles daily on some rugged terrains here in West Virginia, everything from loose gravel to jaggered rocks, creeks and streams, dry and wet areas all on 1 hike. So far after about 20 miles of hiking these type trails these boots are 100% across the boards. From this point on its now a matter of seeing the durability if them long term but nothing so far says they wont hold up! I recommend them to those who want a top notch hiking shoe at a reasonable price, so much so I am either going to buy a second pair of these x ultra 5 mid gtx or I am looking at some of their other comparable shoes.

My go to hiking boots for years were Garmont boots, but the only Garmont boots available in the U.S. now are Tactical boots, which I tried and found to be an awful fit. Over the past 5 years or so I tied Merrel boots (since I wear and like their casual shoes), but they hurt my feet and coincidentally reinflamed bouts plantar fasciitis after longer hikes (I quit using them altogether afterwards). I've never owned a pair of Solomon boots but after seeing an exended review on YouTube I took a chance and bought the X Ultra Mid GTX. I couldn't be more happy. They go on easy, have better support than the 4 inch light hikers I typically use, were instantly comfortable and required no break-in, and remain laced while hiking (also a common problem for me). The top lace cleat is great and holds the lace in place well while tying. I havent had them for long so can't really comment on the long term durability, but I've used them over rough terrain and so far they are holding up well and are a marvel of both comfort and stability for me. Absolutely love these boots.

Gore Tex lined shoe. Can be worn for hours, without moisture build up. The shoes fit well, color and style are quiet. They don't seem to have any strange defects. They fit and seem to function well.

Bought these for a 20 mile hike competition. Benn breaking them in for the past 3 weeks and absolutely love the purchase. I am at 18 miles worth of break in. They are light and comfortable. Bought a half size up for toe room and I’m glad I did.

Love salomon, only complaint i have on these boots are the top lace good. When you're leaving to the top of the boot the lace doesn't grab the hook cleanly, it will grab the base of the hook and slip off, making this hook a "pain in the butt hook that now takes longer to lace then normal.

Several of my hiking friends wear this shoe and have been bragging about it for a long time. My old boots bite the dust so naturally I had to get new Solomon boots. Open the box, go hike for 5 hours and wear a smile on your face all day long!

Overall the shoe has great grip in different terrains but there is a metal plate on the sole of the shoe right where the arch is so for long walks it’s uncomfortable to a point of a bruise

My profession is wildlife and nature photography and it takes me to some pretty crazy places. A recent trip required a 3 hour hike through the Amazon jungle to reach our remote location. I was concerned about keeping my feet dry, well supported, and not crazy hot in the South American heat. I had a well worn pair of X Ultra 4's that are probably the most comfortable of the dozen or so hiking boots I own, so I decided to get a pair of the new X Ultra 5's for this trip. They were perfect! We spent a lot of time scrambling up and down slippery inclines, crossing small streams, navigating mud, and pushing through dense bush. The padded shafts of the boots always made me feel confident I was not going to twist an ankle (which would have been a real problem in our remote location) the grip was very good on every surface I tried, and while I wouldn't describe the feel as "cool" (it was well over 90 degrees F and high humidity every day) my feet never felt like they might melt, something I have experienced in leather boots for example. I was impressed enough that I bought a second pair of X Ultra 5's when I got home, that way one pair can live in my travel trunk and one pair can be available for adventures close to home. Cheers!

I bought the X Ultra 04s in 2023. I enjoyed their combination of lightness and sole stiffness, making traversing through my local White Mts easier. However, when I finally ripped a hole in one in 2025, I debated the merits of trying a new model. The old model had some flimsiness around the toe box, which was quickly ripped up for the type of granite scrambling common in my area. When I saw that the x ultra had been updated, it was a delight. First, toe box durability problem fixed. Second, it fits a bit more snug width wise, which actually works for me. I took it for some shakedowns and then my first big 16 mile 7000’ day. Feet felt great all day. Great work Solomon

Love my fours way better, wish they still made them. Good shoe, but the fours were a great shoe!

Boots are comfortable, but after one main hiking trip the top metal lace catch broke which makes it impossible to pull tight and tie so I have to wrap around my ankle/boot to lace. Also, fabric on one shoe is separated from leather/stiching. Much too pricey for these issues, especially so quickly.
