Great Trolling Lure

I use these lures in various sizes to troll for striped bass in the Chesapeake and they work very well. I use them in different sizes depending on the depth of the water, but the swimming action and rattle make are great for enticing fish to bite. They also have a good erratic action when cast and twitched on a slack line, which causes reaction strikes.

Excellent For Spanish Mackerel

I bought this specific color (pilchard) to mimic the greenies and they worked great. I was fishing for Spanish mackerel at Sebastian Inlet and casting next to people using Gotcha lures, silver spoons, and jigs and I was easily outfishing them. I was casting into the breeze and was still getting a decent distance thanks to the casting weights inside the X-Rap. I would recommend the X-Rap for anyone fishing for Spanish mackerel. In my experience, it also catches plenty of bluefish, but I would recommend changing the hooks out to 4X hooks. The hooks that come with the lure tends to bend too easily from the violent head shaking bluefish tend to do.

Works Well On Shallow Water Saltwater Game Fish

I've used almost all of the Rapala X-Rap XR 14 lures for saltwater game fish (Cobia, Grouper, Bonito, Jacks, etc.). They all seem to work well in shallow water (4'-8'). If you need a deeper diving plug there are other Rapala's however the X-Rap is the most life like looking in my opinion. Also works good for trolling shallow water as long as there isn't a lot of sea grass floating and that is the case with any trolling lure. I would recommend rigging with wire leader if your in Toothy Territory or you're likely to loose a good lure to a Mack or Cuda.
