I have been using OR Expedition gaiters for thirty years for mountaineering and ice climbing. The outer fabric adds a durable layer of protection from snow, scrapes and the inevitable crampon scratches. The size is large enough to accommodate the biggest mountaineering boots. Gore-Tex provides excellent breathability in the most extreme conditions. These gaiters have been bomb-proof through the years. Highly recommended.

Bomb proof, brush, rain, snow doesn’t matter they are tough as hell

Let me start by saying that I have not had a chance to field these gaiters yet, so take this review with a grain of salt. I purchased these prior to a later summer summit of Mt St Helens, which includes a 3/4 mile steep ash field near the summit. While I didn't end up using these during the ascent/descent, I did bring them with me and did have the chance to try them out ahead of time. These gaiters are extremely high quality and feel like they will last me for some time. With that said, these may well be overkill if you only need gaiters for light duty or infrequent use. In my case, I am glad to have these gaiters, as they just instill confidence that your shoes/boots will remain water and debris-free when you're wearing them. The size chart was accurate for me based on my boot size and donning/doffing is relatively easy.

used for snowmaking to keep snow off my cuffs. waterproof, no snow sticks and no damage after one season.

Quality construction. Great for mountaineering - strong enough to withstand a crampon scrape. In deep snow, I found that snow never got through the top. However, after multiple hours, snow can sometimes work up underneath. However, that would happen with any gaiters- just make sure they are fitted tightly!

I’ve owned a number of these gaiters over the years and they are my favorites! Durable waterproof and very adjustable to keep your feet protected. 5 Stars!

I've used these for ice climbing and they've been great. I've also used them outside their recommended use, and they've still been great (used with trail runners and kept my feet dry when snow collapsed and I stepped deep in a creek). I definitely recommend, but they are not the lightest or most packable.

Love these. Wish the lower attachment point was a bit more narrow. Having some compatibility issues.

This is my first pair of gaiters, and I wish I had discovered them years ago. This is the goto gaiter for snowmakers at the ski area I work at. The size large Outdoor Research Expedition Crocodile Gaiter fit great with my size 9.5UK (10.5US) Scarpa Inverno double shell boots, and with size 10EE Danner Light hiking boots. Besides work on the mountain I grab them to walk the dog or shovel throughout the winter. They’re super handy when you don’t want to put on snow pants but also don’t want to get your regular pants wet in the snow. My only complaint is the velcro on the locking tab at bottom of the gaiter (by the toe of the boot) has separated from its backing on one of my gaiters. This seems to be a common issue, and this tab isn’t found on the military version of this gaiter. It hasn’t effected the functionality of the gaiter, so I’d just call it annoying.

The quality is very good. I was skeptical of all the velcro but it has been working really well so far. I have been using them daily the last few weeks for snowshoeing. I have large calves but the top is still a little big and when I am in deep snow the snow goes inside. I ordered the medium size.

Waterproof, keep my legs protected from briars and prickles, a must have for search and rescue

Tried in with my ski touring boots and Mountaineering B2 boots and the gaiters just fall down. Velcro does not cinch down enough around calf to stay up and feels very cheap vs thier old cam lock system. I have athletic legs BTW, not toothpick. I'll try a different brand until OR adds the cam locks back or some other better system. Too many bad reviews on the buckles busting for me to repy on them in the extreme alpine

The gaiters were easy to put on. Had no issues with them hiking all day in 12 to 15" of snow.

Works great for bushwacking in the high rockies for elk hunting! No more grasses seeds or snow in my boots or nice wool socks!

I am an avid hunter, and I have owned and used Sitka, Kuiu, and OR gaiters. Without a doubt, the OR gaiters are the toughest, best value for your money gaiters around! The velcro is high strength, meaning it will stay attached during snowy conditions. The boot strap material is higher strength than other brands. The material itself is MUCH more durable than the other brands as well. I accidentally snagged my gaiters on a barbed wire fence that was hidden in the grass, and there isn't even a hole in my gaiters. With a different brand, I caught my gaiter on a stick that completely shredded one side. As if the durability wasn't enough, the OR gaiter price point is so much lower that, in the rare instance they might need replaced, it doesn't cost and arm and a leg to replace them. These gaiters are a no-brainer for hunters and hikers of all skills and ability.
