Osprey Kestrel 48

Only used a few times. Used on a multi pitch climb, in practice for a bigger few days in the mountains. I needed some adjustment in where it sat on my back so that I could look up the rock face (with helmet on). Once that was done, I almost forgot I was carrying it. The gear loops were perfectly placed. It carries weight really well. Distributing on hips and not shoulders. Very happy. This bag will be used for multiple mountain days and also for search and rescue. So expecting it to take a bit of a beating I would recommend.

Good Kit

Very well made rucksack, great options for stowing and accessing kit. The adjustable back system is effective, allowing a comfortable fit. Very happy with my purchase.

Kestrel 48

Very happy Well thought out design When fully loaded you do not feel the weight One small negative: Difficult to get water bottle from side pouches. . . Means you either have to take ruck sack off or use bladder Overall great purchase and superb quality

Love It!

Best all round backpack for hiking black colour is very sleek

Great Bag

The design of the bag is overall very good. Plenty of pockets with thoughtful placement prioritising usability. The waist support is supper comfortable and makes load carrying so much easier.

Always Used A Kestrel 38

Always used a Kestrel 38 before this, and am grateful for the extra room I thought I might need. Thanks. My grandson will get good use of the old one.

Very Comfortable

This pack checked all the box with all the features at a great price. It is a good size pack if you pack minimally.

Great Bag

I bought this bag for use on winter hikes in the Adirondacks and it’s been great. Not the lightest Osprey bag but very durable. Has a lot of good places on the outside to tie down gear such as snowshoes and crampons which is why I got it.

Fits Great But The Ventilation Isn't Good

I traded this pack in twice - the first time I just thought I had a defective unit, but I had the same issue with the second one. The pack fits great, has really good and convenient pockets, and is well-adjustable, but the back ventilation ""airscape"" design seems like it is supposed to be concave so that your back isn't in contact with the pack, but both units I tried very quickly became convex to the point where it was pushing into my back. This made it so anytime I wore the pack for more than a few hours, my back was the only part getting hot and sweaty. Unless I just happened to get two defective units, I'd say this is a design flaw and you should look at the Atmos or Exos which have much better ventilation designs.

Pack For Rock Climbing And More

Bought this pack to upgrade and be able to haul more gear to the crag. Works great. Able to pack my draws shoes helmet and even a rope! Lunch, first aid kit Water and some butt wipes ;-) Basically everything I need for a day trip to the crag. Would give it 5 stars if it had a key hook in one of the side hip pouch. Guess I will need to sow one in so I can access my keys without dropping my pack. Well made sturdy and very comfortable.

Last Minute Purchase

I needed a pack that was larger than the ones I had and this was the go-to which was in stock. It's a comfortable pack, has a bunch of great features, like the ability to zip open the sides to access pack contents, hip pockets for keeping small things handy, like lip balm/snacks, lots of places to organize gear. Worst aspect was how the top of the pack interfered with the back of my climbing helmet. If the pack hadn't been stuffed to the max, that might not have been as annoying an issue. All in all, I was glad to have it on my trip.

Great Quality And Lightweight

It's a good backpack for mountain trip or backyard journey. The loading capacity is great for 3 days travel. What I love most is the access from the front. It can save the time to trace your item at the bottom of your bag.

Workhorse

Might not be a stallion, but this pack is a fine workhorse! Tough as nails, with all the features you'll need at an affordable price. 48L is more then enough for most weekenders and long term travelers alike. I'd feel confident in the backcountry or on a plane with this pack. The black and green make a great color combo, and added bonus they match my tent. The hip pockets aren't as fluid as I'd hoped, takes two hands to open one, but I think some graphite might fix that right up. It's heavy compared to ultralight bags, but I think the extra 1.5LB are worth the savings, extra back support-and the peace of mind that I can toss this pack just about anywhere and not worry about it. Ospreys all mighty guarantee sealed the deal for me.
