Excellent Craft

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought this type a while, excellent handles very well... love it...

On My 2nd Saranac - Great For Fishing

Have used the canoe(s) to fish the upper-James for many years. Wanted something I could throw onto my shoulders to carry, or load onto my SUV individually (when my youngest was 6). We eventually were caught in a hydraulic and the canoe was destroyed, but I bought a replacement a week later. Have done solo river camping trips, but I use a 16 footer with a 2nd person. The seat-backs are a must since I am 6' 5", and now my oldest is 275 so the canoe can handle 500+ lbs. Yes the bottom is flat, but we run class 2's, plus drag it over many rocks in the riffles.

Well Designed. Well Constructed

I purchased an Old Town Saranac 146 for lake fishing with my daughter. It was a perfect canoe for the two of us, with plenty of room for gear and refreshments. I added a small removable outrigger where I mounted a small electric trolling motor to help hold our position in the lake on windy days. When I fish alone, I use the third seat as my station to keep the canoe flat. I added a comfortable removable swivel seat at that center station for those days when I fish alone. The canoe is light enough for me to single handedly lift up on my SUV roof rack for trips away from home. All in all, this is an excellent vessel, good quality and well made to which I look forward to many years of use.

Nice Canoe

The saranac 146 is a nice size boat for 2 people and hunting gear. After getting home with it, I found the front cap to be loose from several rivets that had failed. I fixed it by installing bolts and nuts...just wanted it to be acknowledged. The adjustable back rest are really great and useful and the seats are comfortable. The 146 is light enough to be handled with ease by one person.

Great Price

We wanted something affordable since we're beginner's. Great value for the price. It's heavier than it looks. Definitely a 2 person job or but a trolly to tow it.

Bottom Of Hull Wobbly

This canoe has a lot of great features. Great for family outings. It's a bit heavy but I knew that with the amount of features and price point. My only real grief is with the bottom of the hull. Within the first year of owning, the bottom of the hull has become wobbly or wavy instead of straight. I don't know how often this happens. It looks like there might be a warranty on it, so I will need to look into this further.

Great For The Price

We just bought this canoe to paddle around in Miami. I was able to apply a coupon to the purchase so the price was very affordable. We used it on ocean and it was easy to transport and very stable even though we had two adults and a large teenager on the Canoe. I use a kayak normally but the canoe was able to keep up with me. I highly recommend it.

Excellent Beginner Canoe

Great middle of the road canoe. Be sure to really inspect the hull well. There are a few issues with the rivets on the bow. All in all great canoe worth the money!!

Great Canoe For The Money, But Inspect Well At Pickup

I've had this canoe out a couple of times since I purchased it earlier this month. It feels reasonably stable and plenty maneuverable for the flat water I intend to use it on. It feels well made and not so heavy that I cannot load/unload it by myself. One word of caution though, if you pick up from the store, do a better job of inspecting it than I did. I purchased the canoe online after seeing it was the last available locally. When I picked it up on Jan 07, 2021, it was already dark out except for the parking lot lights. The staff at the store was very helpful and brought it and the foam roof rack I had also purchased right up. I freed it from the plastic wrapping and loaded it up. It was only after arriving at a nearby restaurant and parking under a light that I noticed the damage to the right front side in the area of the front seat. It was clear something had struck it hard enough to cause a dent and gouges on one side and cause the seat frame to bulge out the opposing side slightly, likely during shipping or storage. At this point, I'd already took possession of it, and there's nothing that would have affected the performance of it in any real way; it was just the principle of paying for a new item and it not being in "new" condition. Again, the staff at the store was great , and the canoe is just what I needed, just be sure what you have before you drive away from the store. Though the quality of the canoe is five stars, the care given to it before it got to me, not so much.

Great Canoe

We have had an aluminum canoe and now decided to try the Old Town brand and love it. It is well made, stable, roomy and nice to paddle. The seats make it very comfortable especially if you have back issues like my husband does. The center container is perfect if you have something to stow. We are very happy with our purchase and our dog is enjoying our paddle adventures.

Misshaped

The canoe floats all right. It’s large enough to hold my son and myself plus some gear. De only real issue I have is the way the bottom is shaped. It makes for a very slow paddle

Perfect For The Family

i purchased two of these canoes and couldnt be happier. My family of 5 +1 fur baby have enjoyed these for countless hours already after only having them for about three weeks. Sinple design, simple to upkeep and light enough that my wife and i can lift them up on the roof of her expedition. Great buy, would def buy again.

Worth It’s Price

I bought this for Labor Day weekend it can make a dent on your wallet when you have a fixed income but seeing my family’s face made it worth it the handling is easy. Also the seats are quit comfortable. Only thing I can say is that mounting it to your vehicle can be a hassle if your by yourself so always good to have 2-3 people to mount it on your truck since it’s almost as long as the truck
